Aaron Gray, a music performance major at Saint Vincent College, will perform his junior recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4 in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center. He will be playing works by Scarlatti, Haydn, Debussy, Galbraith and Dello Joio. Admission is free and open to the public.
Gray is a native of Latrobe and the son of Michelle Kershaw.
At the age of 8, he began to study piano with Gary Newhouse. Over the next ten years he went through various studio changes before studying under Mark Clark. During his high school years, Gray sang in various choir ensembles and often accompanied for them. He also began teaching privately as a senior in high school and became the pianist for Pleasant Unity Methodist Church.
In the fall of 2010 Gray began studying piano with Mrs. Lisa Spang at Saint Vincent as a piano performance major.
While at Saint Vincent, Gray sang with the Saint Vincent Singers, became the summer theatre cabaret musician and substituted for campus ministry as a pianist. He has also been the primary pianist for Derry Lutheran Church, Christ United Church in Greensburg, and most recently, became the music director and organist at Reunion Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant.
