The schedule includes educational activities, live animal shows, displays and booths for all ages and interests.

Sponsored by West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, Westinghouse, Commercial Bank, Saint Vincent College and Sendell Motors, admission is free and open to the public.

Zero Fossil will be providing energy for the event by demonstrating their Curbmaster to power music all day. Other demonstrations will include dueling Bikerators with water sprayers, demo Juiceboxes, Bikerator to LED light demos, solar panel-powered water fountain and a solar panel to power the 20-foot earth balloon inside the gymnasium.

The Pittsburgh Reptile Show will be displaying animals and the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center will be in attendance. A live animal show from Wild World of Animals will be held in the gymnasium at 1 p.m.

Saint Vincent Equestrian Club will host a petting zoo and Gearhard Farms will be providing buggy rides. The event will also include informational booths on gardening, native plants, organic foods, composting and children’s crafts. Appearances by What a Character mascots will be featured.

“Become a part of Westmoreland Earth Day 2013 by attending and participating,” commented Beth Bollinger, coordinator of environmental education at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve. “Our theme this year is Every Piece Counts and we want to remind everyone that even the smallest change in behavior can help make a big difference in the environment. Your involvement in this event will help ensure quality environmental education in Westmoreland County for years to come.”
