Saint Vincent College School of Humanities and Fine Arts and its Department of English and Center for Northern Appalachian Studies will host a special evening lecture and reading by distinguished poet Peter Blair at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 in the Luparello Lecture Hall of the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion on the campus of Saint Vincent College. Admission is free and open to the public.
“Will Stubbs: A Celebration,” is designed to recognize the publication of a posthumously published book of poems, Welcome to the Dying Rose Knights, written by the late William Stubbs, a former professor of English at Saint Vincent for more than 30 years.
Stubbs had been working on the collection during his retirement but after he died the poems were set aside by his faculty secretary. Later, they were discovered and with the support of former colleagues and friends, a decision was made to publish them. The poems are set in and around the Saint Vincent campus, Latrobe and other areas of southwestern Pennsylvania.
The publication contains an introduction by Blair. Attendees will be encouraged to read a passage or a whole poem from Stubb’s work or to share their reminiscences of him.
The publication is available through the Saint Vincent College Bookstore, www.stvincent.bkstr.com.
