The Parker String Quartet, winner of the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance, will be the third performer in the 2013-2014 Saint Vincent College Concert Series at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Robert S. Carey Student Center Performing Arts Center.

Members of the group include Daniel Chong, violin; Ying Xue , violin; Jessica Bodner, viola; and Kee-Hyun Kim, cello.

Their program will include Ludwig van Beethoven’s “String Quartet No. 2 in G. Major, Op. 18, No. 2” and his “Grosse Fugue, Op. 133.” It will also feature Dmitri Shostakovich’s “String Quartet No. 9 in E-flat Major, Op. 117.”

Hailed by the New York Times as “something extraordinary” and by the Boston Globe for their “virtuosic, utterly assured...assiduously cultivated blend of sound,” the Parker Quartet has rapidly distinguished itself as one of the preeminent ensembles of its generation.

The quartet began its professional touring career in 2002 and garnered international acclaim in 2005, winning the Concert Artists Guild Competition as well as the Grand Prix and Mozart Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in France.

In 2009, Chamber Music America awarded the quartet the prestigious biennial Cleveland Quartet Award for the 2009-2011 seasons.

The quartet has been artists-in-residence with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Public Radio, and American Public Media, and can frequently be heard on “Performance Today,” NPR’s premier classical music show.
