Manhattan Piano Trio, one of the most creative, exciting and dynamic young ensembles in the United States, will be the sixth presentation in the 2013-2014 Saint Vincent College Concert Series at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Robert S. Carey Student Center Performing Arts Center.
Members of the trio are: violinist Wayne Lee, cellist Saeunn Thorsteinsdóttir, and pianist Milana Strezeva. Their program will include Wolfgang A. Mozart’s “Piano Trio in E Major, K. 542; Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky’s “Valse Scherzo” for violin and piano, Op. 34; Robert Schumann’s “Fünf Stücke” for cello and piano, Op. 102; and Arno Babadjanian’s “Piano Trio in F sharp minor.”
The Manhattan Piano Trio has been hailed by critics at the New York News Herald as “a grand departure from the usual.” With more than 300 concerts in its first five seasons alone, the trio is one of the most active groups in the classical music scene, welcomed by enthusiastic audiences in over 30 states, Australia, South Africa and Italy, and in venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall and the Ravinia Festival. The Washington Post described the Trio as ‘impressive’ and ‘outstanding,” while the Sarasota Herald Tribune said “one seldom is privileged to enjoy music of such a wide range of styles performed with self-effacing skill and relaxed assurance.”
This will be the trio’s third appearance on the Saint Vincent College Concert Series stage. They last performed on September 6, 2008.
