Fr. Rene M. Kollar, O.S.B., Saint Vincent College professor of history and dean of the School of Humanities and Fine Arts, is the editor of the Wimmer Memorial Lecture by Gerald B. Phelan, The Wisdom of Saint Anselm, originally published by the Archabbey Press in 1960, and now republished in a new edition with introduction by Fr. Nathan Munsch, O.S.B., assistant professor of theology.

When Monsignor Phelan gave the lecture in 1949, he was a recognized leader of the Catholic Neo-Scholastic movement in North America and famous in Catholic philosophic circles as a teacher and philosopher.

The Wimmer Memorial Lecture Series was established in 1947 to celebrate the centenary of the founding of Saint Vincent Archabbey and College. The series lasted from 1947 to 1970.

Fr. Rene has previously edited Wimmer lectures by Christopher Dawson, John Tracy Ellis, Howard Mumford Jones and Jacques Maritain. The next lecture to be republished will be Helen C. White’s Prayer and Poetry which she delivered at Saint Vincent College in 1954. Fr. Wulfstan Clough, O.S.B., associate professor of English, will write the Introduction.

Fr. Rene’s article, Convents, the Bible and English Anti-Catholicism in the Nineteenth Century, will appear in Women’s History Magazine in March.

He has also recently written book reviews for The American Benedictine Review, The Heythrop Journal and Journal of British Studies.
