Saint Vincent College Center for Political and Economic Thought of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government and the Small Business Development Center will host Consul General John Prato of Canada at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 in the Fred M. Rogers Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College. His talk is entitled “Pennsylvania-Canada Connections: The Economic Relationship, a Shared Border and a Common Culture.” Admission is free and open to the public.
Prato assumed his responsibilities as Consul General in March 2011. Prior to that he worked as a managing director in the Equity Capital Markets group at TD Securities, the investment banking division of The TD Bank Financial Group. As a member of the ECM group since 1998, he was also responsible for senior client coverage of a wide variety of leading Canadian companies.
From 1996 to 1998, Prato worked in merchant banking with TD Capital Group Ltd. with a variety of mandates, including private equity, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs and early-stage investing.
He has served on the board of trustees of the Royal Ontario Museum and on the executive committee of that board. He currently sits on the boards of the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research and CommunityLend Inc.

The Center for Political and Economic Thought is an interdisciplinary public affairs institution of Saint Vincent College. It sponsors research and education programs, primarily in the fields of politics, economics and moral-cultural affairs. The Center seeks to advance scholarship on philosophical and policy concerns related to freedom and Western civilization with particular regard to the American experience. The Center was founded in 1991 as an outgrowth of the Alex G. McKenna Economic Education Series, which was launched in 1986.
The Center’s programs include: The Alex G. McKenna Economic Education Series, the Government and Political Education Series, the Civitas Forum on Principles and Policies for Public Life, Culture and Policy Conferences and Scholarships and Fellowships. In addition, the Center supports research and educational activities through its staff and it produces numerous publications.
