Saint Vincent College Student Government Association is encouraging students and other members of the community to pledge to pray for Doug Vitale, a soldier from Westmoreland County who was seriously injured by an explosion while deployed in Afghanistan.

Organized by Eric Sulava, a senior pre-med/biology major from Leechburg, the group has been asking for pledges to pray for Mr. Vitale by signing a banner displayed in the Robert S. Carey Student Center. “We ask for your continued prayers for Doug, along with your prayers for the many other wounded warriors and their families,” Mr. Sulava said. “May we remember our troops that sacrifice so much for the safety of our country.”

In conjunction with the effort, Armed Forces Appreciation Day will be observed on Friday, October 21 at 12:30 p.m. in the Carey Center with representatives from the Marines, Air Force, Army and Navy. Pledges for Prayer t-shirts are also being sold to raise funds for family members.
