Nearly 50 Saint Vincent College seniors plan to pursue careers in education as teachers in early childhood, elementary and secondary education. Several have been offered positions already, while more than 25 are awaiting job offers following interviews in area school districts and districts in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Jenna L. Moon, a history major from Kearneysville, West Virginia, has been accepted into Teach for America, a national corps of recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunities for all children. Ms. Moon will be teaching in Houston, Texas inner-city schools. Only 17 percent of the 19,000 applications are accepted. Melissa S. Bender, a mathematics education major from Cranberry Township, and Eugene D. Bonelli Jr., an early childhood and elementary education major from Apollo, were both offered positions in Virginia school districts. In addition, Mr. Bonelli was offered a position in a Maryland school district. Krystle D. Eleamos, a chemistry education major from Bridgeville, was also offered a job in a Virginia school district. Amy E. Bentz, a chemistry education major from Pittsburgh, was offered a job with PPG Industries in Pittsburgh. Erik M. Doran, a mathematics education major from Greensburg, was offered a long-term substitute position at Hempfield Area School District. English education major John P. Saunders of Latrobe was offered a job in Southmoreland School District.
