Ten Saint Vincent College students were recently inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, an international academic honor society that recognizes outstanding ability in English. The inductees include junior Emerson Duym of Ligonier, senior Rachel Hochendoner of McKeesport, senior Jillian Janflone of Washington, Pennsylvania, senior Megan Matich of Uniontown, senior Melissa Moyher of Latrobe, junior Diana Petrovich of Pittsburgh (15223), senior Alicia Rae of Saltsburg, senior Lauren Scheloske of Greensburg, senior MacKenzie Smith of New Kensington, and senior Kathy Stodola of Manassas, Virginia. Sigma Tau Delta strives to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities; foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language and writing; promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members; exhibit high standards of academic excellence; and serve society by fostering literacy. Members of Sigma Tau Delta must have a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature beyond the usual requirements in freshman English. Members must have a minimum of a B or equivalent average in English and in general scholarship, must rank at least in the highest thirty-five percent of his/her class, and must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college course work.
