Saint Vincent College Small Business Development Center will host a seminar for businesses on the Pennsylvania Sales and Use Tax and how the latest enforcement on these taxes are affecting business today. The seminar, “The Pennsylvania Sales and Use Tax – What Is It and How Does It Affect My Business?,” will be held on Thursday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Saint Vincent College.

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is currently mailing out Use Tax Self-Audit Letters to businesses of all industries and sizes requesting that businesses review purchases for the past three years to determine if any Use Tax has incurred. This workshop will help businesses understand what these taxes are, how to deal with them and how to avoid penalties for not being in compliance. Attendees will learn what sales and use taxes are, the differences between them and when they should pay them and when they should not. Companies will also learn how the location of purchases and the type of company making the purchase affects Use Tax and what impact the taxes have on Internet purchases. The seminar will also cover why a purchase made by a manufacturer is different from other industries and why manufacturers are not exempt on all purchases. Those businesses that have received the self-audit letters and those which the Department plans to send the letters to including manufacturers, retailers, contractors and service companies of all industries and sizes, are urged to attend.
