She is a 2005 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School and is a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Kutztown. The McGowan Scholarship is a program of the McGowan Charitable Fund, which provides accredited business schools of selected colleges and universities with scholarships to help outstanding students who wish to pursue an education in business. The scholarships are meant to encourage leadership, reward academic excellence and recognize other exemplary qualities of character, including intellectual curiosity, a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial potential. The scholarship program is also designed to increase the awareness of the contributions made by the late William G. McGowan, founder and chairman of MCI Communications Corporation, to the fields of business, telecommunications and entrepreneurship. Scholarship applicants must meet specific criteria, including a minimum grade point average of 3.8, a faculty recommendation, evidence of success in a variety of leadership roles and the submission of an essay about the contributions of Mr. McGowan to the business world or telecommunications field.
