SVC Gilbert and Sullivan Players to Present Fall Gala Show Oct. 22, 23
 

Saint Vincent College Gilbert and Sullivan Players will present their fall gala featuring a compilation of songs from various Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as well as a few ballads at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23 at the Robert S. Carey Student Center Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and no reservations are required.

The show includes scenes from Tripping Hither, Tripping Thither from Iolanthe, When the Foeman Bares His Steel from Pirates of Penzance, A British Tar is a Soaring Soul from HMS Pinafore and others.

The cast includes Christopher R. Confer, a senior economics major from Irwin; Jessica L. Fick, a senior English major from Jeannette; Kimberly R. Lesnock, a senior biology major from Canonsburg; Nicole M. Matich, a senior marketing major from Pittsburgh (15221); Nerissa A. McCollin, a freshman biology major from Trinidad, West Indies; Alexander E. Policicchio, a freshman studio arts major from Johnstown; Laurie Racculia, C’01, of Greensburg; Averie Shaughnessy, a freshman arts administration major from Monroeville; Anna Steighner, a freshman political science major from Kittanning; Robbyn B. Trappen, a junior physics major from Arnold; Anthony T. Weisenburger, a freshman political science major from Pemberville, Ohio; and Christopher C. Wilhide, a senior philosophy major from Avon, Connecticut.

Directors for the show are Mr. Confer, Ms. Fick, Ms. Leshock, Ms. Matich and Ms. Racculia.

All Gilbert and Sullivan projects are supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through its regional arts funding partnership, the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA). State government funding for the arts depends upon an annual appropriation by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by The Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance.

The Saint Vincent College Gilbert and Sullivan Players is a student-run organization advised by Dr. Gary Quinlivan, professor of economics and dean of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government. The Club was founded in 2006 by Zachary Luchette, Laurie Racculia and Dr. Quinlivan. Previous performances have included “The Pirates of Penzance,” “Iolanthe” and “The Mikado.” The group will perform three fully-staged performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s opera, “The Yeomen of the Guard” in the spring of 2010.
