Two veterans of the Saint Vincent Theatre stage return to play the romantic leads in the upcoming production of Twentieth Century opening June 25. Los Angeles actress Stephanie Burden plays the role of Lily Garland and Pittsburgh native David Cabot is Oscar Jaffe in this comedy set in 1930s Hollywood. Ms. Burden, a native of Orange County, connected with Saint Vincent Theatre while she was working in Washington, D.C. for several years. This is her second year in Latrobe after playing Audrey in Leading Ladies last season. The 35-year-old actress has been busy on both coasts in regional professional theatre. She played the role of Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Folger Theatre in Washington. She also appeared as Mrs. Pryzbylewski in the HBO production of The Wire which is continuing to air in re-runs. She is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in theatre, and Florida State University’s Asolo Conservatory where she completed her master of fine arts degree in acting. She also does stand-up comedy and plays piano and drums. Offstage the creative young woman works as a vinyl fabricator. Mr. Cabot, 45, a native of Forest Hills who now lives in Braddock Hills, returns for his third season at Saint Vincent where he has appeared in Leading Ladies, Opal’s Baby, Around the World in 80 Days and Be My Baby. A member of the faculty at Point Park University and the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), he has been active in Minneapolis at the Guthrie Theatre, the Jungle Theatre, the Centennial Showboat, the Loring Playhouse and the Children’s Theatre Company where he worked for nine years including five annual productions of The Grinch who Stole Christmas. Locally, he has appeared with Stage Right, Barebones Productions, Quantum Theatre, Pittsburgh Irish and Classical and the Pittsburgh Playhouse where he played Ben in Death of a Salesman last season. A graduate of Point Park University where he earned a bachelor of arts in theatre arts, he also has a master of fine arts degree in acting from the University of Minnesota. Twentieth Century was written by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur based on a play by Charles Bruce Milholland in a new adaptation by Ken Ludwig. The show is directed by Colleen Reilly. The opening night preview performance is at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, June 25. Evening performances are set for 8:10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 26 and 27, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 30, July 1, 2 and 3, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, July 7, 8, 9 and 11, and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Three matinee performances are scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Sunday, July 5, Wednesday, July 8, and Sunday, July 12. The Saint Vincent Theatre’s after-the-show cabaret will be open after all performances except for matinees and the preview performance. The 20th annual Saint Vincent Theatre Gala will be held on Friday, July 10 in the student lounge of the Robert S. Carey Student Center featuring an evening of gourmet food and entertainment hosted by a committee of theatre supporters for the benefit of the Fr. Tom Devereux, O.S.B.
