Call to order- 8:04 PM Prayer- Green Excused- DiAlesandro, Clark, McDermott, Spaw, Scheuermann, Stewart Unexcused- Cheplic, Marsheral, Sroka, Palcsey Public- Stevens, Stofko, Walters, Winters Minutes approved as corrected Jym Walters introduced himself and his affiliation with intramurals. At FSU, where he received his Master’s Degree, there were “lifetime activities” which included a variety of different sports. The plan is to implement one-hour programs here at Saint Vincent every Tuesday from 10 to 11 PM. Many activities that are offered at bigger campuses cannot thrive as effectively at SVC, but this is a chance to imitate them on a smaller scale. Currently the school is working on offering activities for credit, but the transition from activity to academics will take a while. Walters is starting a program now, offering it to 15 students and running it similarly to the Leadership Program, calling it “Intro to Recreational Services.” Through this program, connections will be made with people in the community. Walters also announced that Powder Puff will be held next week; sign-ups are outside his office door. Jessica Stofko informed the senate of the International Week activities that will commence on Monday, consisting of lectures, programs, and an International fair on Friday. The goal is to make an awareness of different cultures. This year is the first ever it will last all week. Encouraged attendance to festivities. Treasurer’s Report- Deely reported an ending balance of $46,991.99. President’s Report- Walz announced that on Tuesday Dr. Cline presented half of his marketing strategy at the SFAB meeting. It is very in depth and another meeting was scheduled to conclude his research presentation. Last week the vice presidents of the school met with Steve Brown about the chips in the id cards. They have decided to remove the chip and figure a way to transfer the monetary memory to the swipe strip. Laundry will therefore be coin operated. Founder’s Day is 17 November at 4 PM. The senate is required to attend by request of Dean Kaylor. Senate will meet in the crypt at 3:30 PM. Information on robe pick-up will follow. Classes will be cancelled during the Honors Convocation and the only time to eat dinner on Thursday is in the gym, so tickets must be retrieved no later than noon on Thursday from Events and Conferences. Walz reported talking to Lamadrid about work study pay times and he will talk to the appropriate people in Financial Aid to see if students could be paid every other week. The library hours project neared its completion and only statistical analysis has yet to be done before a presentation can be made to the administration. It was rather discouraging since many schools have similar hours to ours, so perhaps an adjustment of times will be made. Next week the meeting will be moved up to 6:00 PM due to the Steelers game. On 20 November, the meeting will be moved to 8:15 PM because the Archabbot will be saying mass in the student chapel. This summer, Wagner has been working on compiling a list of bands available for next semester. The projected extra expense costs were gathered from the concert last year. Bands available include Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, Lonestar, Nickelback, O.A.R., and Our Lady Peace. Walz reminded senate when voting to do so on behalf of the whole student body and not their personal interest alone. Typically each concert averages a loss of $20-30,000. SVC is not like other venues in that we do not allow moshing or crowd surfing, and violators will be asked to leave. Motion given by Puglisi to vote on a band; seconded by Keeler. Motion carried with one opposition by Babusci. By roll call vote, the top two were determined; Dashboard Confessional and O.A.R. Issues from the floor include no handicap accessibility from the parking lot to Saint Benedict Hall, no handicap button to get into Alfred after the gate to the cafeteria is closed; cars in the parking lots are getting keyed and garbage thrown on top of windshields; the back door to Rooney is not working, and the door in Bonaventure does not latch when closed and beeps continuously. Leuschel asked if the gym could remain open later on the weekends, instead of closing at 11 PM. Hartbauer reminded senate that the SGA Alumni Reunion Dinner is this Saturday and encouraged attendance. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 PM, with dinner to follow at 6 PM. The busses for Cotillion will leave SVC at 7:45, 8:00, and 8:15 PM. They will be departing Heinz Field at 12:45 and 1:00 AM. Meeting adjourned at 8:48 PM Respectfully submitted by Sheena McBride
