<title>English Club to re-create historic poetry reading on Oct. 21</title>
<link>http://www.stvincent.edu/october_19_2005/special_announcements/english-club-to-re-create-historic-poetry-reading-on-oct_-21</link>
<description>Fifty years ago, the literary world was jolted into a new era when six poets met at San Fransisco&#x27;s Six Gallery to read their work. Among them was author Allen Ginsberg, whose performance of his poem &#x22;Howl&#x22; dominated the reading and set a new standard for modern American poetry. The Six Gallery reading also laid the foundations for the careers of many authors who would later be known as &#x22;the beats.&#x22; This Friday night, Oct. 21, the English Club will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this historic literary event with a re-creation at 8 p.m. in the Science Center Amphitheatre.</description>
