Fifty years ago, the literary world was jolted into a new era when six poets met at San Fransisco's Six Gallery to read their work. Among them was author Allen Ginsberg, whose performance of his poem "Howl" dominated the reading and set a new standard for modern American poetry. The Six Gallery reading also laid the foundations for the careers of many authors who would later be known as "the beats." This Friday night, Oct. 21, the English Club will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of this historic literary event with a re-creation at 8 p.m. in the Science Center Amphitheatre. All are welcome and encouraged to participate, and an open reading will follow the re-creation. For more information, contact Jim Szelagowski at 724-805-8569 or Amy Kronenwetter at 724-805-1216.
