Does your son or daughter need some extra help with homework or study skills? Saint Vincent College Education Department is now offering reasonable "real-time" tutoring in the comfort of your own home.
Education students will offer tutoring using web conferencing software (similar Skype and Facetime) to connect to your child in real-time. All tutoring is monitored by faculty of the education department to ensure quality services.
Under "For Parents" the cost structure is provided. For families with more than two children needing tutoring, a discount can be applied to make the service affordable. Billing information and other contracts are also provided "For Parents".
Yes, the software will work on any computer that is internet connected through DSL/Cable. Your home computer should have speakers or headphones and a microphone (these can be purchased inexpensively at Walmart or any technology retail store). That's all!
Initially, Mr. David Gilbert, Coordinator of Online Instructional Support for Education, will offer you time periods in which you may select for tutoring. Once an agreed time is determined you, will receive an introduction email confirming your times and other needed information. We can customize offering times to fit your schedule, please ask our coordinator for options.
Education students preparing to become teachers will offer the tutoring. Tutors will have all FBI, criminal, and child abuse clearances and will be instructed on the ethical code of practice for offering tutoring online. The education student tutors will be matched to your child's need. For instance, if your child is struggling in fourth mathematics a tutor with coursework in teaching mathematics will be assigned to your child.
Initially, all tutoring sessions will occur with Mr. Gilbert assisting tutors in a campus lab. Once our education students are comfortable with the software and have demonstrated effective tutoring, they will be supervised via recorded tutoring sessions that will only be used for monitoring quality service.
We are wide open for tutoring requests. We encourage that all tutoring to be matched to the PA Standard Aligned System/Common Core. Based on what parent(s) request, tutoring will be arranged to meet your needs. Already, several families have asked for:
