Dr. Hutchinson's CVDr. Peter M. Hutchinson joined the faculty of the Saint Vincent College Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government as a Professor of Economics. A 1968 graduate of Saint Vincent College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics with highest honor, Dr. Hutchinson taught economics at Bowling Green State University for 26 years and also worked in administration there before returning to Saint Vincent in August 1997 as Dean of Institutional Advancement.
At Bowling Green, Dr. Hutchinson served in a series of posts including Director of Graduate Studies in Economics, American Council on Education Fellow, Project Assistant to the Vice President for Planning and Budgeting, Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. As a member of the Administrative Council, he served as a key policy advisor to the President, responsible for a wide range of academic, personnel and administrative functions.
Dr. Hutchinson's first academic appointment was as a Teaching Fellow in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. At Bowling Green, he served as an Assistant Professor of Economics from 1971 to 1975, Associate Professor of Economics from 1975 to 1981 and Professor of Economics from 1981 to 1997. He served as an economist with Marathon Oil Company and as a professional consultant for its Management Practice and Corporate Planning Programs.
Dr. Hutchinson is the author and presenter of numerous professional papers, journal articles, research reports and book reviews including, "Accessibility and Segregation: Their Effects on the Employment of the Urban Poor," which he wrote for his doctoral dissertation.
He has directed a number of major grants and funded research including projects for the Cleveland Foundation's Program for Business and Management Education and for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His professional service includes the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania Advancement Committee, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Advisory Committee, Consultant-Evaluator for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and several Ohio Board of Regents task forces.
Dr. Hutchinson has been honored numerous times for his work in higher education including receiving the Master Teacher Award and the William T. Jerome III Award for Outstanding University Administrator, presented by Bowling Green in 1984 and 1989 respectively. He also was named an American Council on Education Fellow (1982-83) and was selected for the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society.
From 1997 to 2002, Dr. Hutchinson served as Dean of Institutional Advancement at Saint Vincent overseeing development including annual giving, special gifts and planned giving, corporate and foundation grants as well as public relations and alumni affairs.
He and his wife, Ginny, reside in Unity Township. They are the parents of two grown sons, Chris and Brian.
