The holiest week of the year is upon us with Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Tomorrow night in the Carey Center Auditorium there will be a student program that will make this Holy Week unforgettable.
One of our young Benedictine monks, Brother Elijah, wrote a musical version of The Way of the Cross that includes student actors, actresses, and singers. The entire production will make your heart soar. You simply won’t believe that some of your fellow students can sing so beautifully, or that one of our monks could produce something so authentically creative. When I saw the production a few weeks ago, it brought tears to my eyes.
Perhaps your Lent up to this point has been a dud – here’s a chance to kick it into high gear by coming and seeing something very powerful, unique and spiritually uplifting. You won’t regret coming – trust me on this one! We’ve moved the production from the Basilica to the Auditorium to make it easier for you to attend. The program begins at 9:15pm and lasts about 80 minutes. It is free, of course.
If you don’t think of yourself as religious, then this is the show for you. You will be moved to the depths of your heart – that is my prediction. There will be refreshment after the program to add to your delight.
And for you religious fanatics, this meditation on Christ’s suffering and death will enrich your preparations for the Triduum. The scenes of Jesus and Mary bring to mind the words attributed to John Paul II who after seeing Mel Gibson’s Passion purportedly said, “It is as it was.”
I hope to see you there tomorrow night.
