  • Center for Northern Appalachian Studies documents the heritage of the multi-faceted region of Northern Appalachia using tools provided by a variety of disciplines and community-oriented projects.
  • Common Texts Project includes a collection of works chosen by Saint Vincent faculty to be read in a variety of courses thereby providing a measure of coherence among courses offered by the various academic departments.
  • Interdisciplinary Writing Program provides students with writing assignments from within the curriculum, welcoming individuals to share the problems they encounter as well as their experience and expertise with other students and faculty.
  • Saint Vincent Camerata features historically-costumed performers and music from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods against the dramatic backdrop of the Saint Vincent Basilica.
  • Saint Vincent Concert Series provides eight world-class artists on stage each season.
  • Saint Vincent Gallery houses a permanent collection and hosts visiting exhibitions on a regular basis.
  • Saint Vincent Theatre, a professional Equity Theatre, offers five productions during the spring, summer, and fall.

Current Signature Projects

Saint Vincent College was among only 17 colleges, universities, and cultural institutions in 12 states to receive a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge Grant during the summer of 2004.
The $500,000 NEH grant award supports the following projects:

  • Center for Ethics in Community which expands the College's work in the field of ethics by incorporating ethical content and dialogue into all academic disciplines, offering faculty opportunities for professional development, and sponsoring public lectures and events focusing on contemporary ethics and moral topics.

  • East Asia Studies Program which builds upon the College's ties to East Asia by offering Chinese language courses and opportunities for faculty and students to become acquainted with Chinese culture.

Future Signature Projects

  • Center for Law and Religions will enhance the understanding of the complex relationship of law and religion in contemporary society.

  • Center for the Study of the Laity will sponsor research projects that examine the lived experience of religion in America.

  • Great Books Program will create opportunities for students from various disciplines to engage in the exploration and critical discussion of the works that have been influential in molding modern thought.

  • Humanities Dialogue Project will be constructed as an interdisciplinary forum, which will allow a topic to be discussed from the perspective of the students, the faculty, and recognized authorities outside of the College.

  • Arts Education Major will be an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to work for museums, concert venues, galleries, and other arts organizations.  Courses will be taken in the visual and performing arts, the humanities and business.

  • Fine Arts Studios will be new well-equipped spaces for the creation of art.  The studios will focus predominantly on ceramics and photography.
