Into the Community - Freshman Orientation Slideshow
Our office organizes an unprecedented amount of service into the local community as approximately 500 SVC freshman accompanied by faculty and student leaders perform community service each year during freshman orientation on Saturday morning.
SVC Alternative breaks (Fall / Spring) are a time for some students to partner
with recently homeless individuals, faculty and their peers to help
others facing physical or financial limitations. Students assist
shut-ins who needed cleaning, light remodeling and painting in their
homes.
Other local events include; Annual Christmas Giving Tree; resources for many student based clubs and initiatives; post
graduate service opportunities

International

KolKata, India
Accompanied by President Towey, students have an incredible opportunity to participate in a service trip to one of the poorest areas of the world today. Students are drawn into the spirit of Christ's teachings by working in the homes that were actually developed by Mother Teresa, who made service to the poor out of love for Jesus her life's work. Some of the locations inlclude Shishu Bhavan, an orphanage and school for handicapped children; Daya Dan Nimtala, a home for severely handicapped youth; Prem Dam, a home for the terminally ill; and Kalighat, the House for the Dying.
Excerpts from student's journals:
"Visiting Mother House and praying at Mother Teresa's tomb was a once in a lifetime spiritual experience. I'm trying my best to briefly detail the experience, but I lose myself in my memories and thoughts every time I reflect on the journey."
"I am now extremely tolerant of others... I no longer complain about stupid things anymore."
"The city of Kolkota appears old and ruinous - beautiful in so many ways"
