The Lady Bearcats split a road doubleheader at Mount Aloysius, dropping the opener 6-1 before regrouping for a 7-4 win in the nightcap. In the day's first contest, the Lady Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth, when Maura Wahl, who walked, scored on a Rachel Komarinski double. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Mounties responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth before closing out the game's scoring with three more runs in the sixth. SVC's offense struggled in the opener, as the team was held to four hits, with one apiece from Komarinski, Emily Petrowsky, Shannon Ballantyne, and Jenna Bealko. Angela Sleith took the loss in the circle, working six innings and allowing six runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two. After spotting the Mounties a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, the Lady Bearcats countered with four runs in the third, all scored with two outs. Wahl and Komarinski started the rally with back-to-back singles, with Whipkey following with a double to score Wahl and tie the score. Angela Doyle then reached on an error, plating Komarinski, before Jostalyn Klosky cleared the bases with a double, giving the Lady Bearcats a 4-1 advantage. Mount Aloysius cut the SVC lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth, before the Lady Bearcats added insurance with a pair of runs in the fifth. Komarinski and Whipkey each singled to begin the frame, and both were then brought home on a Doyle triple, putting SVC ahead 6-2. The Mounties scored twice in the sixth, making the score 6-4, before the Lady Bearcats closed out the day's scoring in the seventh, with Ballantyne singling home Petrowsky, who reached on a fielders choice. The SVC offense shook off its rust from the first game to finish with 11 hits in the nightcap. Doyle, Klosky, Whipkey, and Komarinski all had two hits apiece, with Komarinski reaching base in all four of her plate appearances. Whipkey worked the complete game for her sixth win of the year, scattering six hits and striking out five while walking just one. The split moves SVC's record to 9-11 on the season, and the Lady Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany College for a 3pm doubleheader.
