The Lady Bearcats were defeated 7-2 in the opening game of a doubleheader with Pitt-Greensburg then won game two by a score of 7-3. In game one, Saint Vincent jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when Leanna Seminsky, who walked to lead off the frame, scored on a double off the right field fence by Angela Doyle. Pitt-Greensburg answered right back in the top of the second, scoring three runs, with the big hit coming from Nicole Linsenbigler, who blasted a two-run home run. The Lady Bearcats got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, when a pinch-hit double by Maura Wahl drove in Mollie Stock, who singled to lead off the frame. An unearned run in the top of the fifth then put UPG up 4-2, before the Bobcats put the game away with a three-run homer by Haley Kimmel to close the scoring at 7-2. Angela Sleith started and took the loss for SVC (1-6), working three innings and giving up three runs on seven hits. Kimmel earned the win for UPG (4-5), throwing a complete game and scattering six SVC hits while striking out six. In game two, the Lady Bearcats took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ashley Whipkey, who also started on the mound, led off with a single down the left field line, then moved to second on a Stock sacrifice bunt. After Emily Petrowsky walked, both runners moved up on a ground out. Jenna Bealko drove home Whipkey with a single, then Petrowsky scored on a double by Seminsky. After UPG got a run back in the third, SVC broke the game open in the bottom half of the third. Doyle led off with a double down the left field line, then moved to third on a Whipkey single. A single by Stock drove home Doyle to make it 3-1. Both runners moved up on a passed ball, then Petrowsky singled and drove both home, making it 5-1. Later in the inning, SVC scored another run thanks to a bases loaded single by Wahl. UPG cut the gap to 6-3 in the fourth inning, but SVC added another run in the fifth inning when Seminsky, who had gotten on base with a single, scored on an error to make it 7-3. Whipkey, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, went the distance and earned the pitching win, scattering eight hits and giving up three runs, all unearned, striking out four. SVC improved to 2-6 on the season with the victory.
