The mission of the Minority Student Coalition is to expose the Saint Vincent and immediate communities to the uniqueness of other cultures through a number of different vehicles to enhance and enforce a newfound diversity initiative. With this intent, we hope to foster healthy multi-cultural relationships that ensure academic and lifelong success.
For the 2007 - 2008 academic year the Minority Student Coalition has number of events planned that will promote cultural understanding through education and recreation. The list includes:
This joint venture with the Saint Vincent College Student Government Association will celebrate the King holiday while provides informational material about King's life, the Civil Rights Movement, and the history of the King holiday.
Black History Month
1) Patrick Malley will be at Saint Vincent on Feb.5. 2008 to give tell
us over DINNER about what the EEOC does and how we benefit from their
services. However, since this is a dinner lecture please RSVP by
sending your student ID numbers by replying to this message, Please do
this by ASAP.In addition, the Dinner lecture begins at 4:30
2) The play entitled Portraits of Courage will be coming to Saint
Vincent on Feb. 11, 2008. Portraits of Courage is an examination of
overlooked African-Americans and their contributions to American
history. Surprised at the absence of African-American figures in
today’s history books, playwright Colin Cox created a theatrical piece
to help bring recognition to a few of those who have helped shaped our
country. One woman and one man portray the characters in this 65 minute
live presentation. So PLEASE do not miss this performance and bring
friends. This will be held in the Carey Center Auditorium.
3) Abolish the N word Campaign. In today's society we are face with the
ignorance of people using the N word not only in music and movies but
also in everyday life. With this stated in honor of black history month
members of MSC have decided to campaign against the word and spread
knowledge of the hurt and frustration behind the word.
