The Saint Vincent College men's basketball team recognized Dr. Aldo Prosperi at the team's final event before school lets out. Dr. Prosperi, a 1980 SVC graduate, was awarded the Harry Morrison Award for his volunteerism as the team doctor at all home games.

The award was started last year in honor of Mr. Morrison's volunteerism as the team's academic advisor/director of basketball operations. The award is given to individuals who volunteer their time to aid students to excel not only in athletics but also academics.

"I was very surprised," Dr. Prosperi said of the announcement. "This is an honor. I like all of the guys and enjoy being around the team." Dr. Prosperi explained that he enjoys sports medicine and men's home games gives his family an opportunity to spend time together.

"They (my sons) play basketball and have a good rapport with the players," Dr. Prosperi said. "It's exciting for them to hang around the college kids." Prosperi is there not only to lend medical services, but also helps the players with issues unrelated to basketball. He considers the team part of his extended family.

"Aldo has been unbelievable to our kids both on the court and off," SVC head coach D.P. Harris offered. "He's welcomed us into the community, not only as players, but as people. He's always lending an ear.

"He's very well-respected by the community and he's a big part of Saint Vincent," Coach Harris added. Dr. Prosperi has been regularly treating players for the last five years and has consistently attended almost all of the home games in the last two seasons.

"He puts a lot of effort in and is always available to the guys," Mr. Morrison explained. "He deserves to be recognized. He enjoys the games and is there in case anything goes wrong."
