Accountability System

  • Accountability Officer
    • All alarms will have an accountability officer wearing a vest labeled “Accountability Officer.”
      • All alarms will have one accountability officer posted at each entry/exit point of the hazard area.
      • An accountability officer may be assigned to more than one entry/exit point, as long as he/she can see both from a stationary location.
  • Accountability Officers Duties
    • The accountability officer shall record the function, position and time of each person entering the hazard area.
    • The accountability officer shall report to the incident commander at all times.
    • The accountability officer has no command authority.
  • Identification Tags
    • Each department shall supply each person with two (2) tags, consisting of a township assigned color, and a numbering system.
    • One (1) tag shall be worn on the helmet; the 2nd tag shall be worn on the bunker coat.
      • Upon arrival on scene, each fire fighter shall attach their helmet tag to the main operating vehicle, at the pump panel.
      • On a multiple company response, the helmet tag should be attached to the apparatus the firefighter will be operating from.
    • Once given an assignment, from “Command,” to operate in a hazard area, the fire fighter shall report to the accountability officer at the entry point, and give him the 2nd tag, along with their function, and location in the hazard area. (e.g. Search/rescue-1st floor, salvage-2nd floor)
    • Upon exiting the hazard area, the fire fighter will immediately report to the accountability officer to collect their 2nd tag.
