Return to Station Routine

  • When the incident commander determines the services of a unit are no longer needed at he incident scene, he/she shall direct the unit officer to return the unit to the station.
  • The driver of the apparatus, with the help of the crew, shall determine that all equipment belonging to that unit is on board the apparatus before leaving the incident scene.
    • If it is necessary to leave some equipment behind for further operations at the incident scene, it shall be explicitly established as to in whose care the equipment is being left.
  • The crew of a unit shall take position on the apparatus and assume responsibilities for safety comparable to those observed on response.  Members must be seated and belted.  The driver is responsible to ensure all members are seated and belted.
  • On arrival at the station, the crew of a unit shall be responsible for cleaning, servicing, and returning to service apparatus, equipment, and PPE.
  • Any damage occurring to apparatus or equipment should be reported in writing to the Chief as soon a possible.
  • When clean up is complete and an "after-action" review has been conducted, members shall be released from duty by the chief or another line officer.
  • The chief or Saint Vincent Public Relations shall handle any contacts made by the media (newspaper, radio or television) concerning an incident.
