Non – emergency Operation of Apparatus
- Qualified drivers only must operate apparatus, all normal traffic laws shall be obeyed.
- The unit officer will report location and status of the apparatus to operator upon leaving and returning to station.
- Training of new operators will be done with the approval of the chief. A line officer will instruct a new operator from the officer’s seat.
- Apparatus shall not be driven without the knowledge of the chief or a line officer.
Apparatus Maintenance Routines
- All apparatus shall be subjected to a routine maintenance inspection at least once a week. Routine inspection shall be completed or supervised by maintenance officer and/or engineer. The persons doing the inspection, indicating that the operation was done correctly shall sign the checklist.
- Apparatus shall be inspected upon return to the station whenever they are moved. The Driver’s Log shall be filled out and signed by operator.
- Any mechanical difficulties noted at any time should be reported to a line
officer.
- If a difficulty is of a serious nature and the apparatus must be removed from service, the Chief and the engineer shall be notified. A notice shall be posted on the apparatus and on the club room bulletin board. Westmoreland 911 will also be notified.
