Obligations for all Members
- Read, learn, and practice Departmental Standard Operating Guidelines.
- Recognize chain of command: Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, 1st. Lieutenant, 2nd Lieutenant, Engineer, followed by the most senior member and how this chain of command is used on and off the incident scene.
- Understand personal responsibilities of a member, such as: conduct, attendance at drills and functions; care, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment; location of equipment, issue of equipment, completion of assigned course work, etc.
- Recognize that personal safety is the primary obligation of all members.
- Report any injuries, illnesses, or exposures resulting from department activities to a line officer as soon as practical.
- Understand SVFD incident management system. (see Appendix 1)
- Follow SVFD Radio Procedures at all times when using two-way portable or mobile radios.
- Recognize the importance of responding to any emergency call.
- Recognize the importance of, and each member’s role in promoting fire and life safety throughout the Saint Vincent community.
- Promote a positive attitude about the department:
- Members shall not make derogatory comments about the department or any members of the department to, or within hearing distance of, any non-member (the general public).
- Any comments, questions, or concerns about the department policies, procedures, or operations, including the SOGs, shall be directed to a line or administrative officer.
