General Conduct and Procedure at the Incident Scene
- All personnel shall operate under the incident management system used by the department.
- Firefighters shall not participate in any activity for which they are not properly trained and/or equipped.
- Firefighters using SCBA shall work in teams of two or more, operating alone is not permitted at anytime.
- Firefighters shall not enter any involved fire building without a charged line available and at least two other firefighters on the scene capable of making a rescue if needed.
- After completing a job assignment, a crew shall make itself available for further assignment by his/her officer.
- Members operating on or adjacent to the roadway shall wear a garment with
retro-reflective material
- Emergency warning lights on apparatus will remain on, but headlights (especially “brights”) should be turned off.
- Traffic cones and/or highway flares shall be used as an added safety precaution.
- Apparatus shall be used as a shield from oncoming traffic whenever possible.
- Any incident that may be considered a crime scene, including vehicle crashes, shall be disturbed only to the extent necessary for life safety and incident stabilization.
- Any member who has consumed alcohol shall not respond to any emergency call or attend any Department sponsored class or function.
- Any member of the department who has been found to have consumed alcohol shall be ordered immediately from the incident scene or apparatus by a line officer. This member shall be subject to disciplinary actions by the chief.
