This is a formal presentations, so wear your best that you have on campus. So, when you go home for Easter break, bring back a suit that you would wear to an interview. If you don’t have a business suit, dressy slacks and a blouse for the ladies and a button down shirt and tie with a sport coat would be very professional.
I am nervous when I give presentations, maybe I shouldn't do this? No, this is the place to try! It’s a non-threatening environment. We’re all peers here and your faculty member will be there to support you through the process. That includes practicing with you and explaining to you what type of presentation is appropriate and expected in your field of study. Also ask your sponsor if you should prepare an extemporaneous presentation or if you are permitted to read a manuscript. Again, all fields of study are different.
Should I use visual aides?Ask your faculty sponsor if this is something that is typically done in your field. Some conferences expect it, others expect a straight forward reading of your paper.
Who can come to the Conference? My parents will be here for Honors Convocation. May I invite them to the conference?Absolutely. Even if your family can’t make it for the Honors Convocation in the Basillica that afternoon, they are welcomed to join you throughout the afternoon as you walk through the conference. They might appreciate being invited to see your work. Some students might feel uncomfortable having their parents watch them…but again, be proud. In the end, it is your decision. The committee will supply you with postcards so you can inform your friends and family about the time and location of your speaking event.
