Open tryouts were held... as candidates for the team arrived in August of 1985, with great anticipation. Twelve young women were selected to become the first Saint Vincent College intercollegiate volleyball team. Only two players had high school experience.  Fans of Saint Vincent well know how the team has grown in stature and accomplishment since then.

Former and current Lady Bearcat volleyballers have previously competed for PIAA State Championships, and USA Junior Olympic Regional and National Championships.  And Coach Hozak’s teams have also qualified for post-season play eleven of fifteen years.

Team honors have included: 1997 NAIA Northeast Region Runners-up;  1994 Northeast Region champions; and 1994 NAIA National Championship Team Sportsmanship Award.

The Lady Bearcats were 1994 KECC Runners-up, earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in 1993-95-96, and the YWCA Westmoreland Sportswomen Team of the Year in 1994.

Coach Hozak’s teams have produced four NAIA All-Americans; 14 NAIA All-America Scholar Athletes; nine NAIA Northeast All-Region players; five Conference Freshmen of the Year; two NAIA District 18 Players-of-the-Year; 36 NAIA All-District/Conference Players; and 20 NAIA District/ Conference Scholar Athletes.
