The Lady Bearcats earned a 3-2 road victory over Bethany College. After dropping the first set of the night 22-25, the Lady Bearcats charged back to take a 2-1 lead with 25-17 and 25-12 victories. Bethany evened the match at 2-2 with a 21-25 win in the fourth set, before SVC sealed the win with a convincing 15-6 triumph in the tiebreaking fifth set. "It was a good defensive battle from both teams," said SVC head coach Sue Hozak. "Bethany was just relentless. They never quit. It was just a great match." The balanced SVC offense was led by Natalie Hozak, who recorded 16 kills, while Diana Petrovich added 14 and Taylor 13. The Lady Bearcats were also strong at the net, with Rachel Pace tallying a career-high eight blocks. Dawn Timko added seven, and Devin McGrath five. "When we played well at the net," said Coach Hozak, "we seemed to control the play." McGrath also finished with a career-high 54 assists, while Christa Calgaro led the SVC defense with 22 digs. Lundy Sobek posted a team-high three service aces. With the win, the Lady Bearcats improve to 19-8 on the season. The team returns to action on Sunday afternoon, taking part in a big tri-match at Thomas More College with Thiel College. SVC (19-8), Thomas More (21-8), and Thiel (19-7) boast the top three records in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, and the Lady Bearcats will be looking to avenge early season losses to the two other squads.
