Saint Vincent volleyball coach Sue Hozak has announced her team's incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2008 season. Taylor Guido, Dawn Timko, Briana Butterworth, Kelsie Bumbarger, Lundy Sobek, and Ashlee Cowles will all attend Saint Vincent beginning this fall, and plan on continuing their volleyball careers for the Lady Bearcats. A native of Greensburg and graduate of Greensburg Salem, the 5-9 Guido picked up All-Section, All-WPIAL, and All-State (PIAA) accolades following the 2007 season. A four-year member of the Golden Lions volleyball program, Guido can play both outside hitter and defensive specialist. A member of the Keystone club team, she plans on majoring in Chemistry at Saint Vincent. Timko is a graduate of Derry Area and native of Blairsville. A 5-10 middle hitter, she also was named All-Section, All-WPIAL, and All-PIAA following her senior campaign with the Trojans, in which her team finished a perfect 12-0 in the regular season. A teammate of Guido on the Keystone club team, Timko plans on majoring in Elementary Instruction. A graduate of Northern Cambria HS, Butterworth earned All-District 6 and All-PIAA honors in 2007, as her team advanced to the PIAA Class-A state quarterfinals. A 5-5 defensive specialist, she was a member of the Lions Pride club team. She plans on majoring in Elementary Instruction at SVC. Bumbarger played four years at Altoona High School, earning All-District 6 honors. The 5-4 libero/setter played club volleyball for the Nittany Valley Juniors. She plans on majoring in Special/Elementary Instruction. Cowles, a native of Latrobe and graduate of Greater Latrobe HS, played four seasons for the Wildcats, helping lead her squad to the WPIAL Section 2 regular season championship in 2007. The 5-11 middle hitter also played for the Foothills club team. She will major in Physics. Sobek played four seasons at Bethel Park High School, while the 5-7 defensive specialist/outside hitter was a member of the Pittsburgh Three Rivers club team. She plans on majoring in Elementary Instruction at SVC. Saint Vincent is coming off of a 24-9 record in 2007, capturing the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division-II championship for the second straight season. Over the past four seasons, the Lady Bearcats have racked up a record of 91-33. They tip off the 2008 season on August 29th, hosting the annual Saint Vincent College Challenge.
