The Lady Bearcats extended their season with a 3-2 victory over Penn State-Behrend on the road in the first round of the ECAC's South Region Tournament. The Lions grabbed the momentum early in game one, opening up a 17-9 lead and not looking back. SVC closed the gap to five, 20-15, but never managed to get closer, dropping the game by a 25-19 score. Saint Vincent rebounded to take the early lead in game two, building leads of 13-7 and 15-10. However, the hosts then stormed back, scoring the next four points to cut the lead to just one, 15-14. Later, Penn State tied the game at 18 before SVC scored four straight points, capped by a Natalie Hozak ace and a kill by Ashlee Cowles. Saint Vincent ultimately took the game to match point, 24-22, but Behrend scored the next point to keep the game alive. However, a kill by Rachel Pace gave SVC the game win. The third game proved to be a back and forth battle throughout. Behrend took an early 3-1 lead, and it would be the only time that either team would lead by as many as two points until the Lions scored two consecutive points to make it 17-14. After a timeout, the Lady Bearcats then rallied to score the next three points to tie the game, and it once again went back and forth from there. The Lions took the Lady Bearcats to game point with a 24-23 lead, but Diana Petrovich came up with a kill to tie the game at 24. The next point again went to the hosts, putting SVC's back against the wall a second time, but a setter's dump by Devin McGrath tied the game at 25. An error by PSU gave the Lady Bearcats a 26-25 lead, and a kill by Hozak gave SVC a 27-25 win and a 2-1 lead in the match. Game four had a similar look to game three, with the teams trading points throughout. Behrend took a 9-5 advantage early, but SVC, behind strong play from Petrovich, scored the next four points to tie the game. The teams were tied several more times thorughout the match, the latest at 22-22, before Behrend rallied to score the game's final three points and send the match to a deciding fifth game. Behrend held a 5-4 advantage in the tiebreaker before a kill by Pace tied the game. After a kill by Erin Perry, Saint Vincent never looked back, cruising to a 15-11 win. Saint Vincent improves to 23-10 with the win, while PSU-Behrend ends the season with a record of 22-11. The Lady Bearcats, the tournament's #5 seed, will now advance to the Final Four Tournament, which will be hosted by #1 seed DeSales on Saturday.
