A buzzer-beating shot by tournament host Warner Southern College sent the Lady Bearcats to a 59-57 defeat in the Thanksgiving Classic.

SVC led 33-25 at the halftime break, but WSC fought back throughout the second half.  With the game tied at 57 in the closing seconds, SVC (1-1) had the ball and an opportunity to take the lead, but a charging call turned possession over to the Lady Royals (2-1).

WSC's Chelsea James hit the game-winner with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock.

Laura Klimchock led Saint Vincent with 12 points.  Lauren Reilly added 11 and Christina Paolino 10.  Caryn Glassbrenner and Ashley Benzio added 9 points each.  Reilly led SVC rebounders with 7.

Laura Klimchock led Saint Vincent with 23 points, while Lauren Reilly added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

11/28 - Carlow

The Lady Bearcats snapped their two game losing streak with a 72-61 win at former American Mideast Conference foe Carlow University.

Laura Klimchock and Christina Paolino paced SVC with 16 points each.  Janelle Reed added 14 and Ashley Campbell scored 12 for Saint Vincent (2-3).  Klimchock added 5 steals, while Lauren Reilly had 6 rebounds.

12/5 - Wheeling Jesuit

The Lady Bearcats were unable to defeat a strong Wheeling Jesuit squad, falling to the visitors 78-71.

Play was back and forth throughout the entire first half, as there were seven ties and eight lead changes.

The Cardinals threatened to run away with the game with eight minutes left in the frame, going on an 8-0 run to take a six point lead.  SVC, however, answered right back to take a 26-25 lead, with sophomore Janelle Reed scoring five points and junior Laura Klimchock two.  Wheeling Jesuit then went on to score the final five points of the half to take a 30-26 lead into the break.

After the intermission, a Christina Paolino jumper pulled the Lady Bearcats to within two, but Wheeling Jesuit answered in a big way, scoring 27 of the next 40 points to pull ahead 57-40 with 7:55 to go.

SVC, led by Klimchock, refused to go away, as she scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the second half.

The shooting guard cut the Cardinal lead to nine after converting on a three-point at the 1:40 mark, while Paolino pulled SVC to within seven 20 seconds later with a jumper of her own.  Another two from Klimchock made the score 75-70 with 30 ticks to go, but it was as close as the Lady Bearcats could get, as they were forced to foul.

The Cardinals made three of their final four shots from the free-throw line to seal the 78-71 win.

Three other Lady Bearcats joined Klimchock in double-digits, including Reed (13 points), Paolino (11), and sophomore forward Lauren Reilly (10).  Paolino led SVC with 10 rebounds, while sophomore point guard Ashley Campbell added six assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

12/7 - Point Park

The Lady Bearcats ended an 8-year winning streak against Point Park with a 81-71 loss at the Carey Center.

Junior Laura Klimchock led all scorers with 25 points, while Charlisa Cummins led the visitors with 22.

In a back and forth first half, the Lady Bearcats were able to force 12 turnovers, but shot only 35 percent from the field, finding themselves down 36-31 at the break.

Shortly into the second half the Lady Bearcats were able to gain a two point lead, using a seven-point run, but Point Park answered right back with a 7-0 run of their own. The Pioneers then pulled away, leading by as many as 18 with less than five minutes remaining.  The Lady Bearcats cut the deficit to six after a Christina Paolino three with just over a minute to go, but it was as close as they would get.

Saint Vincent managed to shoot 38.7% from the field and just 50% from the foul line, while Point Park was able to obtain a 46.5 field goal percentage and shot 72.7% from the charity stripe.

Klimchock was joined in double-figures by Paolino, with 20 points, and Caryn Glassbrenner's 14.  Glassbrenner also paced the Lady Bearcats with seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Ashley Campbell recorded nine assists and four steals to go with six boards.

12/9 - Thomas More

The Thomas More Saints dealt the Lady Bearcats a 58-48 loss in Saint Vincent's first Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.

After an Ashley Campbell bucket tied the game 2-2 in the early going, the Lady Bearcats never trailed in the first half, ultimately taking a 25-23 lead into the break.

The Saints came out strong in the second half, hitting a trio of three-pointers to turn a 27-23 SVC lead into a five-point lead for the visitors (32-27).  A Maura Wahl three-pointer at the 9:20 mark cut it to a one-point deficit for SVC (36-35), but that was as close as the Lady Bearcats would get, as Thomas More continued to hit key shots and extend their advantage.

Ashley Campbell led SVC with 12 points and 7 steals.  Laura Klimchock also scored 12 for Saint Vincent.  Lauren Reilly had 6 rebounds.

1/6 - W&J

Washington & Jefferson dealt the Lady Bearcats their first loss of the New Year, picking up a 91-58 victory at the Henry Memorial Center in Washington.

The Presidents jumped out to a 16-5 lead just five minutes into the contest, and there was no looking back, as W&J shot 67 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Lady Bearcats 28-12 to take a 53-25 advantage into the intermission.

W&J's front court, led by 6-3 center Sarah Hunt and 6-0 forwards Maggie Gibson, Maria Hillenbrand, and Emily Hays combined for 47 points for the contest, led by Hillenbrand and Hays, who each scored 13.  The Presidents outscored SVC 64-8 in the paint for the game, and finished with a 46-25 advantage on the glass.

After owning play in the first half, W&J went on to score the first six points of the second frame, opening up a 61-25 advantage.  Laura Klimchock, who finished as SVC's top scorer with 16 points, stopped the Presidents' run, hitting three consecutive three-pointers, and Janelle Reed made a long jumper to cut the deficit to 25 with 13 minutes remaining. This was as close as SVC would get, however, as W&J then went on an 8-0 run to go up 77-43.

The teams then shared buckets throughout the remaining nine minutes, and the Presidents coasted to the 33-point victory.

Lady Bearcat sophomore Christina Paolino scored 11 points to join Klimchock in double figures, while Reed chipped in seven.  Sophomore Lauren Reilly led SVC with five rebounds.

1/8 - PSU-Altoona

A 14-0 run, capped off by an Ashley Benzio put back, put the Lady Bearcats up 20-6 just seven minutes into the contest, and they never looked back, taking a 41-22 lead into halftime.

The Lions were able to cut into the Lady Bearcat lead following the intermission, pulling to within 11 after outscoring SVC 9-1 to open up the second frame.

SVC quickly answered, however, scoring 11 of the next 13 points, with seven coming from Paolino, to stretch the gap to 53-31 with 14:30 remaining.

The Lady Bearcats then finished the game as they started it, going on a 12-0 run to gain a 79-42 lead, their largest of the night, with just under two minutes remaining.

Saint Vincent outrebounded the Lions 60-47 on the evening, and were led by Paolino, who pulled down 12 boards to post the first double-double of her career.

Klimchock added four steals to lead the Lady Bearcats, while freshman point guard Maura Wahl had six assists against just one turnover.

1/10 - Westminster

The Lady Bearcats found themselves down early, and were unable to come back, dropping a 67-51 decision to Westminster at the Carey Center.

The visiting Titans got off to a hot start, racing out to a 13-0 lead just five and a half minutes in, while the Lady Bearcats were held scoreless until a Laura Klimchock bucket at the 13:45 mark.

Over the first 20 minutes, Westminster was able to limit SVC shooters to just five field goals on 35 attempts.

The Westminster lead continued to hover around the 20-point mark over the early portion of the second half, as the teams matched each other bucket for bucket.

Saint Vincent was able to finish the game strongly, scoring 11 of the game's 15 points, and outscored the Titans 40-38 over the second half.

Klimchock led all scorers, finishing with 26 points, while Janelle Reed came off of the bench to score 14.  Lauren Reilly led the Lady Bearcats with 10 rebounds.

1/13 - Grove City

Laura Klimchock tied her career high with 31 points, but the Lady Bearcats lost to PAC foe Grove City College on the road by a score of 74-72.

The game was evenly matched in the early-going, with both teams trading baskets throughout much of the first half.  The Lady Bearcats opened up a six point lead with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half (32-26), but the Wolverines fought back, eventually taking a halftime lead thanks to a buzzer-beater by Shannon Overdorff that made it 40-38 GCC at the half.

Klimchock took over the game early in the second half, posting 12 points in the first 10 minutes of the half.  After Rachel Karpency fed Christina Paolino on a break with 9:40 remaining, SVC had built their largest lead of the game, seven points, at 63-56.

Again the host school fired back, tying the game at 64 with 5:01 left.

Both team then had trouble finding the scoreboard, with little more than free throws to account for points.  A freebie by Klimchock put SVC back in front, 69-68 at the 1:47 mark, but GCC's Rachel McCoy put the Wolverines in front for good  at the 1:30 mark (70-69).  Tough defense by GCC and missed opportunities by the Lady Bearcats resulted in a two-point final margin.

Klimchock led all scorers with 31 points.  Maura Wahl added 13 and Paolino 12 for SVC (3-9).   Paolino grabbed 8 rebounds, while Lauren Reilly had 6.

Janelle Reed recorded the first double-double of her career, while Caryn Glassbrenner tied a school record with six blocked shots, as the Lady Bearcats defeated Waynesburg 70-48.

Laura Klimchock led all scorers with 26 points, while the Lady Bearcat defense forced 21 Waynesburg turnovers and held the Yellow Jackets to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

SVC came out of the gates on fire, opening up a 21-4 lead just eight minutes into the contest, with nine points coming from Klimchock.  The Lady Bearcats eventually enjoyed a 38-17 advantage at the intermission.

The second half was much of the same, as Reed took over, scoring 12 points and grabbing nine boards over the final 20 minutes.

The Lady Bearcat lead eventually swelled to 27 with just under five minutes remaining when Klimchock connected on a long three pointer to put SVC up 67-40.

Glassbrenner enjoyed her second stellar performance in as many games, tying an 11-year old record first set by Felicity Sluga in 1996 with her six blocks.

1/24 - Bethany

Four players scored in double figures and the Saint Vincent defense forced 36 turnovers as the Lady Bearcats cruised to an 80-56 victory over Bethany.

Janelle Reed and Laura Klimchock each scored a game-high 20 for SVC, while Kristin Darrow scored a career high 12 and Caryn Glassbrenner added 10.

The Lady Bearcats jumped out to a 26-9 lead while forcing 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes.  SVC then went on a 9-0 run over the next seven minutes to open up a 35-9 lead, capped off with a three-pointer from Reed with three minutes to go in the first half.   The hosts took a 35-16 advantage into the intermission, and held the Bison shooters to just 20 percent over the first 20 minutes.

The teams shared buckets to open the second half, but SVC then went on another lengthy run, this time 9-2, to open up its largest lead of the night at 50-22 on another trey from Reed.

Bethany then starting chipping away at the SVC lead, but could not get any closer than 15 points, 65-50, with 2:43 remaining in regulation.

Reed added seven steals and a team-high seven rebounds for SVC, while Klimchock also picked up seven assists.

1/27 - Thomas More

Thomas More College completed a season sweep of the Lady Bearcats, as Saint Vincent fell 63-49 on the road in Kentucky.

The Lady Bearcats fell behind early, trailing by as many as 18 at one point (30-12).  SVC then rallied, going on a 12-0 run over a 3:20 time span, cutting the margin to six (30-24) with 2:57 remaining in the first half.  After a timeout, the Saints regrouped and took a six-point lead into the halftime break, 35-29.

Thomas More came out sharp in the second half, scoring the first six points of the half to expand the lead to 12.  A Maura Wahl three-pointer cut it to 41-32 with 16:25 remaining, but that was as close as Saint Vincent would get.

Chatham hung tough over the early stages of the contest, tying the game at eight four minutes in, but the Lady Bearcats quickly responded, taking a 25-12 lead after Klimchock's coast-to-coast lay up with eight minutes left in the first half.

Wahl then stole the show, connecting on a trio of three-pointers over the next two minutes to put SVC up 35-20 at the five-minute mark.  For the evening, Wahl, a freshman point guard, made six of nine attempts from behind the arc, one shy of Penny Heil's record set in 1996.

It was then Klimchock's turn in the spot light, as she scored SVC's next 11 points over the final 3:30 of the half to give the Lady Bearcats a 46-24 advantage at the intermission.  For the half, SVC connected on 54 percent of its shots.

Following the break, the Lady Bearcats continued to add to their advantage, starting the second half on a 23-6 run over the first seven minutes.  They enjoyed their largest lead of the night, 71-33, after a Janelle Reed bucket with just over nine minutes left in regulation.

Klimchock enjoyed a complete night, adding seven steals and five assists to her 22 points.  Glassbrenner's seven blocks tied a record that she preveiously shared with Felicity Sluga and Cassie Brady.  Glassbrenner previously equaled the record on January 19th against Waynesburg.

Defensively, the Lady Bearcats forced 24 Chatham turnovers, while holding the Cougar shooters to just 27 percent from the field.  SVC also out-rebounded Chatham 46-29.  On the offensive side, nine Lady Bearcats scored at least two points, while the team notched 20 assists on its 25 field goals.

1/31 - Westminster

The Lady Bearcats were defeated 80-40 on the road by Westminster.

As was the case in the first meeting between the two teams, Westminster jumped out to a huge lead (15-2), and the Lady Bearcats couldn't recover.

Laura Klimchock was the lone scorer in double-figures for SVC, as she scored 13.  Teammate Caryn Glassbrenner paced the Lady Bearcats with five rebounds.

As a team, SVC shot just 25 percent from the field (13-42), while the Titans hit at a 49 percent clip.  The Lady Bearcats were also out-rebounded by a margin of 49-27.

2/3 - W&J

The Lady Bearcats lost to Washington & Jefferson at home by a score of 76-56.

SVC played W&J close for the first 9 minutes.  A Rachel Karpency bucket tied the game at 14-14, but W&J then went on a 23-5 run to end the first half, making it 39-17.

The Presidents continued their domination in the second half, making it 65-34 with a little over 9 minutes remaining in the game.  Saint Vincent then embarked on a 17-0 run oer the next four minutes, to cut it to 65-51, but that was as close as they would get.  W&J then scored eight straight points to extend the lead and put SVC away.

Laura Klimchock led SVC with 24 points, while Janelle Reed added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals.

2/7 - Thiel

The Lady Bearcats snapped their two-game losing streak, defeating pesky Thiel College 69-63.

Laura Klimchock once again led the way for the Lady Bearcats, scoring 23 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists.  Teammate Lauren Reilly posted a season-high 16 points, while Janelle Reed added 15 for Saint Vincent.

The first half was a seesaw battle, with the lead changing hands six times over the first 10 minutes.  The Lady Bearcats were then able to pull away, ending the frame on a 12-5 run to take a 28-21 advantage into the half.

Thiel came out of the break on fire, going on an 11-4 run, tying the game at 32 with 14:40 left in regulation.

SVC, led by its defense, then answered right back, as Reed picked up four steals over the next six minutes, with each one resulting in a basket, to propel a 25-11 SVC run and put the hosts up 57-43.

As was the case in the two teams' previous battle on January 17th, Thiel refused to quit, fighting back to within four, 63-59, with a minute remaining.

The Tomcats were then forced to foul, and the Lady Bearcats went 6-8 from the line to seal the win.

2/10 - Grove City

On Senior Night at the Carey Center, Saint Vincent junior Laura Klimchock scored a game-high 33 points, becoming the school's 21st member of the 1000-point club, as the Lady Bearcats rolled to an 84-63 win.

It was a career high for Klimchock, as were the 24 points scored by teammate Janelle Reed, a sophomore guard.

Freshman point guard Maura Wahl connected on a three-pointer with 12:30 left in the half, and, after a Grove City turnover, Reed did the same, hitting a shot from NBA-range to put SVC up by eight, 17-9.

The Wolverines fought back to close the gap to eight, 25-17, with 8:17 left, but Klimchock then took over, scoring SVC's next 10 points over a three minute span to give SVC a 35-23 lead with five minutes left.  SVC led 41-33 at the half.

The lead continued to grow in the early stages of the second half, as Reed and Wahl continued to tear it up from outside with a pair of threes and Klimchock inched her way closer to the milestone, as SVC went up 52-39.

Grove City again rallied to shrink their deficit to seven, 63-56, with eight minutes left in regulation, but the Lady Bearcats then managed to put the game away with two foul shots from Caryn Glassbrenner, a pair of baskets and a free throw from Reed, and two more from the charity stripe from Klimchock, making the score 70-57.

With 4:15 left in the game and Klimchock sitting on 999 career points, the shooting guard drove to the lane, putting in a lay up over two defenders to become the 21st women's player in Saint Vincent College history to reach 1,000 career points.  Fittingly she was fouled on the play, and buried the foul shot to put the Lady Bearcats up 77-60.  On the night, she canned 14 of 16 from the charity stripe.

Wahl was a third Lady Bearcat in double-figures, scoring 14, while Reed's 5-5 showing from beyond the arc spearheaded a Bearcat long distance attack that shot 56 percent (10-18) on the evening.

The Lady Bearcat defense held the Wolverines to just a 39 percent showing from the field, and SVC also outrebounded GCC 37-32.  SVC's Lauren Reilly led both sides with eight boards, while she also added six assists.

2/14 - Bethany

Saint Vincent's Laura Klimchock hit a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining in the game to lift the Lady Bearcats to a 73-72 victory over Bethany College on the road in West Virginia.

Klimchock led all scorers on the night with 24 points, while Reed added 16.

The Lady Bearcats started off in fine fashion, outscoring the Bison 10-2 over the first three minutes.  As was the trend of the night, however, Bethany came right back, going on a 21-5 run of their own to take a 23-15 lead with 8:42 left in the first half.

The first half Bison lead eventually stretched to 11 points, 30-19, with just over five minutes left, but SVC seized the momentum going into the intermission, with Lauren Reilly connecting on a three-point play with 40 seconds left to make the score 36-28 at the half.

The momentum stayed in favor of Saint Vincent after the break, as six points from Reed in the first two minutes keyed a 15-3 run over the half's first five minutes, and SVC went up 43-39.

A basket and a subsequent foul shot from Klimchock stretched the Lady Bearcat advantage to eight, 52-44, with 12 minutes left on the clock, while Maura Wahl's bucket four minutes later made the score 62-52 in favor of the visitors.

Bethany then came roaring back, going on a 15-3 run, capped off with a Lisa Mitchell three at the 3:50 mark to go ahead 67-65.

After four lead changes and the Lady Bearcats down 72-69, Reilly scored with 40 seconds left, and SVC's full-court pressure defense forced a turnover on the subsequent Bethany possession.

Klimchock was then fouled with 14 ticks left on the clock, making a pair of free throws to give SVC the 73-72 advantage.  Bethany raced up court and had an open look at a three at the buzzer, but it came up short, giving SVC the season sweep over the Bison.

Courtney Irwin led Bethany with 14 points, while Mitchell added 13 and Kaitlyn McCormick 12.

As was the case in the first match up of the season between the two teams, the SVC defense, particularly its full-court trap, proved effective, picking up 21 steals and forcing a total of 35 Bison turnovers.

With her 12-15 showing from the free throw line, Klimchock now owns the record for most successful free throws in a season, as she's connected on 165 shots from the charity stripe.  The previous record, 156, was set in 2000 by former All-American Kelly Morda.

2/17 - Waynesburg

The Lady Bearcats ended their season with a 75-58 loss at Waynesburg.

Laura Klimchock led SVC with 19 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Bearcats found themselves down early and were unable to fight back.

The Yellow Jackets started the game on fire, scoring the game's first eight points en-route to opening up a 16-4 lead over the first five minutes, with 12 of those points coming on threes from Katie Lewandowski, who finished with a game-high 23, and Sarah Gossett, who tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Bearcats seized the momentum in the final moments of the first half, going on a 18-9 run, with six points from Klimchock and two threes from Maura Wahl, to take a 38-30 deficit into the intermission.

Waynesburg, however, started the second half in the same fashion as they started off play in the first, eventually opening up a 55-39 lead over the first six minutes, with three more treys from Lewandowski.

Baskets from Klimchock and Lauren Reilly once again pulled the Lady Bearcats to within 10, 58-48, with seven minutes to go, but the Yellow Jackets again seized control, putting SVC away by scoring 13 of the game's next 16 points to open up a 71-51 lead with four minutes on the clock.

Klimchock was joined by Wahl in double-figures, as the freshman point guard scored 10 on the strength of three treys. Janelle Reed led SVC with 10 rebounds, while Lauren Reilly added nine points and seven rebounds.
