Saint Vincent College women's basketball coach Kristen Zawacki has announced the team's incoming freshmen for the 2008-09 season. Guards Emily Fenton of Greater Latrobe High School, Marguerite Sargent of Washington HS, Krista Franitti of Blackhawk HS, and Kasara Nee of Highlands HS, and forwards Brittany Sedlock of Northern Cambria HS and Mary Fairley of Beaver Falls HS will all attend Saint Vincent beginning this fall and continue their basketball careers. Fenton was a four-year starter and three-year captain of the Greater Latrobe basketball team, starting every game in all four years of her career. She finished her career as the third all-time leading scorer in school history, with 1,328 points, while she also added 316 assists and 254 steals over her four seasons, as he led the team in scoring, assists, and steals in each of the past two seasons, leading the Wildcats to the WPIAL playoffs both years. A three-time all-section selection in basketbll, she has also been a three-year starter on the Greater Latrobe softball team, which was back-to-back section champions and won the 2007 WPIAL Quad-A title. She plans on majoring in Elementary Education at Saint Vincent. Sargent started all four years at Washington High School, and ended her career with over 1,100 career points. A team captain and four-year letterwinner, she was named team MVP following her senior campaign. She earned a number of accolades while playing for the Prexies, as she was named first team All-Washington County, first team all-section, Finest Fifteen, Fabulous Fifteen, and was tabbed a Player to Watch by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She also was a four-year starter on the Washington volleyball team, earning MVP honors as a senior, while in addition, she was a three-year letterwinner in track, running the 400 and 800 meters. She plans to major in Communication at Saint Vincent. Franitti was a two-year captain, three-year starter, and four-year letterwinner at Blackhawk. She led her team into the playoffs during an all-section senior campaign, and she finished her career with 839 points.
A two-sport athlete at Blackhawk, she also was a two-year letterwinner in softball. The honor student plans on majoring in Occupational Therapy at Saint Vincent. Nee was a two-year starter at Highlands HS, leading the Rams into the playoffs during her senior campaign. A Wendy's High School Heisman nominee, she also earned the school's Leadership Award, and was selected to play in the 2008 Cager Classic All-Star game. She was also a two-year letterwinner in track, and was a four-year Academic achievement award winner. Sedlock was a three-year starter at Northern Cambria, which won three consecutive Heritage Conference championships and finished as runners up in the 2008 PIAA finals. She scored over 1,000 points for her career, and led her squad in points, steals, assists, and rebounds during her senior campaign. She was a two-time Heritage Conference All Star, as well as a 1st Team All-Gazette and All-Altoona Mirror pick in 2008. She participated in the Altoona Mirror All-Star Game and won MVP of the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat Senior Classic. She also was team-captain in both volleyball and softball, as her volleyball team captured four straight Heritage Conference championships and twice finished as PIAA runners-up. Fairley was a two-year starter at Beaver Falls. As a freshman, she earned Most Improved Player, while she was named a Scholar Athlete following her senior campaign, leading the Tigers into the playoffs. An exceptional student, she was a three-year member of the National Honor Society and received the school's Academic Excellence Award four times. The Lady Bearcats are scheduled to tip off the 2008-09 season on November 15th, traveling to Ursuline College.
