The Lady Bearcats lost to Goshen College (IN) by a score of 68-60 in the first day of the Warner Southern College Christmas Classic Tournament in Lake Wales, FL. Goshen got off to a quick start, scoring the game's first 8 points, before SVC settled down. Janelle Reed hit a three-pointer, then followed it up with a three-point play, cutting the margin to one, at 8-7. Goshen built the lead back to nine (23-14), but SVC went on a 9-point run to tie the game at 23-23. However, with 4:15 remaining in the first half, SVC point guard Ashley Campbell picked up her third foul and came out of the game. Goshen then went on a 16-2 run to end the half, building the lead to fourteen, 39-25, while SVC struggled, hitting just 2-of-13 from outside the 3-point arc. Reed hit a pair of three-pointers in the first 90 seconds of the second half, then Lauren Reilly converted on a feed from Caryn Glassbrenner in the paint to cut the margin to eight, 44-36. Goshen once again responded and built the lead back to 14 with 5:34 remaining (62-48) before SVC went on a run. A Maura Wahl three-pointer made it 65-58 with 1:20 left on the clock, but that was as close as SVC would get. Janelle Reed led all scorers with 23 points, while Wahl and Reilly added 11 each. Reilly recorded a double-double on the evening, adding 11 rebounds, and also had 5 steals. Glassbrenner added 8 rebounds. The Lady Bearcats (3-6) will face Pikeville College (KY) on Saturday at 3PM in the tournament's final day. PHOTO (by Jeff Zidek): Maura Wahl scores against Goshen College.
