SVC Women's Basketball
11/16 - Chowan

The Lady Bearcats lost their season opener despite a strong second half showing, falling 56-51 to Chowan University in the first round of the Seton Hill University tournament.

SVC struggled in the early going, scoring just four points in the game's first 10 minutes en route to a 24-18 halftime deficit.  The team shot just 21% (6-29) in the first half.

The Lady Bearcats stormed back in the second half, taking a short lead with three minutes remaining.  Chowan then came back to earn the win.

SVC was led by Janelle Reed and Maria Baroffio, who scored 17 each.  Point guard Ashley Campbell grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 4 assists, in just 24 minutes of play.

11/17 - Penn State-Greater Allegheny

The Lady Bearcats cruised to a 99-42 win over Penn State-Greater Allegheny in the consolation game of the Seton Hill University Tip Off Tournament.

Saint Vincent's Janelle Reed led both sides with 18 points, adding a game-high six steals, while Laura Klimchock (12 points), Kathy Bianco (10), and Rachel Denis (10) also scored in double figures.

The Lady Bearcats were clicking on all cylinders from the start, taking a 32-4 lead on a Reed three-pointer just nine minutes into play.  The SVC defense was just as tough, holding PSU-GA scoreless for a 10-minute span midway through the first frame, while forcing 21 first half turnovers.   SVC led 47-16 at halftime.

As was the case in the first half, the Lady Bearcats used another big run to put the game away for good in the second frame, scoring 23 unanswered points, capped off by a three from Bianco to put SVC up 76-27 with 10 minutes left in regulation.

The Lady Bearcat lead grew to as large as 58 points, at 93-35, on a three-pointer from Denis with four minutes left to play.

It was a team effort for Saint Vincent, as 12 different players scored at least two points.  SVC also owned the boards, out-rebounding PSU-GA 55-34, led by eight from Gabbie Kassis and seven apiece from Bianco and Ashley Campbell.

11/24 - Notre Dame College

Despite a game-high 29 points from Laura Klimchock, the Lady Bearcats were defeated 85-63 by visiting Notre Dame (OH) College.

The game was close early on until the Falcons used a barrage of three pointers to go on a 15-3 run, opening up a 34-13 lead with just under seven minutes left in the opening frame.

Klimchock then scored 11 points over the next five minutes, and the Lady Bearcats closed the gap to 10, at 42-32, before the Falcons scored the final four points of the half to take a 46-32 lead into the break.

Notre Dame came out of the intermission on fire, going on a 14-0 run to start play in the second half to open up a 60-32 lead with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.  Maria Baroffio and Maura Wahl then scored on consecutive possessions to temporarily stop the bleeding, but the Falcons opened up their biggest lead of the night, 80-48, with six minutes left on the clock.

SVC then seized the momentum, outscoring the Falcons 15-5 to close the game, with six points coming from Lauren Reilly, but it was too little, too late, and the Falcons spoiled the Lady Bearcats' first home game of the season.

Reilly was the second leading scorer for the SVC, with eight points, while adding a team-high nine rebounds.  Gabby Kassis scored seven points for the Lady Bearcats, while Baroffio posted three steals.

Four players scored in double-figures for the Falcons, led by 21 points from Ashley Carney.  Amanda Brown came off the bench to score 16 for Notre Dame, while teammate Jamie Henry picked up the double-double with 12 points and 19 rebounds.

The Lady Bearcats shot just 26 percent (9-34) from the field in the second half, and connected on only one of 10 attempts from behind the three-point line.  Conversely, Notre Dame shot at a 50 percent clip (14-28) from the field over the final 20 minutes.  The Falcons also enjoyed a 52-34 advantage in rebounds for the game.

11/27 - Ursuline

It was a tale of two halves in the Lady Bearcats' 77-71 loss to visiting Ursuline College.

After owning play for the first 20 minutes and taking a 41-34 lead into halftime, SVC was outscored 43-30 in the second frame to take the loss.

Saint Vincent's Laura Klimchock led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Janelle Reed added 20 and Ashley Campbell 14 along with a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Bearcats started the game in fine fashion, jumping out to a quick 11-2 lead just three minutes into play on a bucket by Reed after one of Campbell's six steals.

After an Ursuline time out, the Arrows regrouped, and eventually gained an 21-18 advantage at the 10:20 mark.  Saint Vincent answered right back, and after two thres from Reed and two baskets apiece from Klimchock and Campbell over the next three minutes, the Lady Bearcats led 30-22.

Saint Vincent's advantage stretched to 13 points after Klimchock scored, was fouled, and hit the ensuing free throw to make the score 39-26 in favor of Saint Vincent with four minutes left until the intermission.  Ursuline ended the half on an 8-2 run to cut the halftime deficit to seven, at 41-34.

Ursuline seized the momentum after the break, going on a 13-4 run to begin play, regaining the lead at 47-45.  A basket from SVC's Lauren Reilly tied it back up at 51 with 13 minutes to go, but the Arrows then scored eight straight points to take a 59-51 lead with 10 minutes left in regulation.

The Lady Bearcats again played catch-up, and a basket from Klimchock closed the Ursuline advantage to 61-58 with just over eight minutes to go. Ursuline's lead eventually stretched to seven, 65-58, but the Lady Bearcats scored the next nine points, capped off by a Campbell jumper at the 3:10 mark to give SVC the 67-65 lead.

It was the final advantage of the night for the Lady Bearcats, however, as the Arrows came back to score 12 of the next 16 points, making five free throws over the last minute, to capture the come from behind win.

11/29 - PSU-Altoona

The Lady Bearcats were defeated 66-54 at Penn State-Altoona.

SVC's offense struggled all night, as the Lady Bearcats shot just 27 percent from the field (16-58) and committed 30 turnovers.

Saint Vincent's Laura Klimchock led all scorers on the night with 18 points, while teammate Janelle Reed added 14. Gabbie Kassis also had a strong game for SVC, scoring eight points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and blocking six shots.

The teams battled back and forth in a low-scoring first half, sharing the lead four times.  PSU-Altoona took an eight-point advantage, 22-14, with just over three minutes left until the intermission.  Saint Vincent stormed back, going on an 8-2 run, and the PSU-Altoona lead stood at 24-22 at halftime.

Saint Vincent came out strong in the second half, and, after six straight points from Kassis over the first three minutes, took a 28-27 lead.

The Lady Bearcats built onto the lead, and after Ashley Campbell picked up one of her six steals on the night and went the distance for the lay up, SVC led 38-28 with 13:45 left in regulation.

PSU-Altoona came back strong, taking a 43-43 lead six minutes later, but the Lady Bearcats responded, and a pair of three-pointers from Reed and two Klimchock free throws put SVC up 52-50 with four minutes left to play.

It was all PSU-Altoona after that, however, as the Lions ended the contest on a 16-4 run to earn their first win of the season.

12/1 - Westminster

The Lady Bearcat losing streak reached four games after a 77-45 defeat at Westminster.

SVC's offense continued to struggle, as the Lady Bearcats connected on just 13 of 51 shots from the field, good for 26 percent.  Gabbie Kassis was the lone Lady Bearcat to score in double-figures, as she came off the bench to post 10 points, while Ashley Campbell picked up a game-high six steals.

Westminster was hot from the start, jumping out to a 22-7 lead just nine minutes into play.  The Lady Bearcat defense then stepped up, and allowed the Titans to convert only four field goals over the final eight minutes of the half.  Due to its cold shooting, however, Saint Vincent's offense was unable to cut into the deficit, as the Titans led 38-20 at halftime.

The second half was much of the same, as the Titans came out of the locker room on a 14-4 run, opening up a 52-24 lead.  The Lady Bearcats then played even with the Titans over the final nine muinutes of the game, as the SVC defense forced a number of Westminster turnovers.  The deficit was too large to overcome, however, and Westminster earned its fifth straight win to start the season.

12/5 - Chatham

Saint Vincent junior Janelle Reed scored a career-high 34 points as the Lady Bearcats snapped their four game losing streak with an 86-58 victory over Chatham.

Reed set a team record by making eight three-pointers, while Maria Baroffio added a career-high 14 and Maura Wahl 13 in the win for the Lady Bearcats.

SVC led from the start, and opened up a 22-7 lead after two threes from Baroffio and a pair of buckets from Reed just 5:30 into play.

The Lady Bearcats continued to extend the lead throughout the opening half, enjoying their largest advantage, 39-16, on a Caryn Glassbrenner bucket with 4:16 left until the intermission.   SVC eventually led 44-27 at the half.

Saint Vincent continued to build onto its lead in the second half, with Reed scoring five points over the first minute, and then Wahl hitting two quick threes to put the Lady Bearcats up 57-32 with 16 minutes left in regulation.

With SVC leading 70-49, Reed hit her seventh three of the evening, tying Penny Heil's record set on Feb. 20, 1998, and the junior from Saltsburg, PA then sunk the record-breaker with 2:00 left in regulation to put SVC up 82-55.

Eight different players scored at least two points for the Lady Bearcats, and the hosts shot 48 percent from the field for the game, and a blistering 61 percent (14-23) from beyond the three-point line.  Glassbrenner and Reilly shared the team lead with seven rebounds apiece, while Wahl had five steals and Glassbrenner seven assists.

12/8 - Waynesburg

The Lady Bearcats defeating Waynesburg University by a score of 60-43.

Janelle Reed led SVC with 22 points, while adding five steals, and teammate Ashley Campbell scored 14 points with five assists and seven rebounds.  Caryn Glassbrenner topped the Lady Bearcats with 11 rebounds.

Saint Vincent took an 8-0 lead just 1:10 into play, with threes from Reed and Maria Baroffio and a lay up by Ashley Campbell.  The Lady Bearcat lead stretched to 10, at 13-3, just two minutes later, on Reed's second three of the night.

Waynesburg chipped away at its deficit, and eventually brought the game to within one, at 17-16.  SVC's lead again grew to seven points, at 26-19, on a Maura Wahl three-pointer with just under a minute left before halftime. Waynesburg scored the next three points to make the halftime score 26-22 in favor of the Lady Bearcats.

The second half started off as a back-and-forth affair, until the Lady Bearcats used stifling defensive pressure to go on a 17-5 run in a six-minute span midway through the final frame, opening up a 47-33 lead on a Gabbie Kassis lay in at the 10-minute mark.  Over those six minutes, six different Lady Bearcats scored at least two points.

SVC continued to build onto the lead, and, after two more threes from Reed, the Lady Bearcats enjoyed their largest advantage of the night, 60-41, with three minutes left to play.

Over the second half, Saint Vincent forced 15 Waynesburg turnovers, and the Yellow Jackets made just 10 field goals on 28 attempts, and just one three pointer in seven tries.

12/14 - Wanrer Southern Tournament 1

The Lady Bearcats lost to Goshen College (IN) by a score of 68-60 in the first day of the Warner Southern College Christmas Classic Tournament in Lake Wales, FL.

Goshen got off to a quick start, scoring the game's first 8 points, before SVC settled down.  Janelle Reed hit a three-pointer, then followed it up with a three-point play, cutting the margin to one, at 8-7.

Goshen built the lead back to nine (23-14), but SVC went on a 9-point run to tie the game at 23-23.  However, with 4:15 remaining in the first half, SVC point guard Ashley Campbell picked up her third foul and came out of the game.  Goshen then went on a 16-2 run to end the half, building the lead to fourteen, 39-25, while SVC struggled, hitting just 2-of-13 from outside the 3-point arc.

Reed hit a pair of three-pointers in the first 90 seconds of the second half, then Lauren Reilly converted on a feed from Caryn Glassbrenner in the paint to cut the margin to eight, 44-36.

Goshen once again responded and built the lead back to 14 with 5:34 remaining (62-48) before SVC went on a run.  A Maura Wahl three-pointer made it 65-58 with 1:20 left on the clock, but that was as close as SVC would get.

Janelle Reed led all scorers with 23 points, while Wahl and Reilly added 11 each.  Reilly recorded a double-double on the evening, adding 11 rebounds, and also had 5 steals.  Glassbrenner added 8 rebounds.

12/15 - Warner Southern Tournament 2

The Lady Bearcats fought to the final buzzer, but lost to Pikeville College by a score of 80-77 in the second day of the Christmas Classic at Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, FL.

Saint Vincent started well, building a 17-8 lead after a put-back by Sarah Campbell a little more than five minutes into the game.   Pikeville then went on a 9-point run to tie the game at the 11:30 mark, before Maria Baroffio's three-pointer put SVC back in front.

Janelle Reed then scored seven consecutive points on a jumper, a three-pointer, and a pair of free throws, as SVC built a 10-point lead, 29-19 with 8:15 remaining in the first half.

Pikeville then embarked on a 17-4 run to take a 34-33 lead just five minutes later.  The teams battled back and forth, with Pikeville ultimately taking a two-point lead after a basket with just six seconds remaining.  However, SVC moved the ball downcourt quickly, and Reed hit a buzzer-beating trey to give SVC a 41-40 halftime advantage.

It was a see-saw battle early in the second half, with the teams trading leads and staying close.  Pikeville then used a 13-2 run to open a 59-47 advantage with 13 minutes remaining.

A pair of three-pointers, one by Maura Wahl and one by Reed, kept SVC close, making it 60-57 with 10 minutes left.

Pikeville stretched the lead back to seven (67-60) but the tough SVC defense created turnovers, and solid play by Caryn Glassbrenner in the paint brought SVC back to within one (70-69).  Glassbrenner continued to grab rebounds and draw fouls inside, and hit a pair from the charity stripe to put SVC in front 72-71 with five minutes remaining.

From there, it was once again a back-and-forth battle, with the teams trading leads several times.  Gabbie Kassis hit a jumper with 2:30 left to put SVC up 77-76, but Pikeville kept the Lady Bearcats off the board the rest of the game.  A pair of late turnovers proved costly to SVC, as they fell behind by three, 80-77, with 1:38 left.

Pikeville missed four opportunities at the free throw line, and SVC had one last chance to tie the game.  Unfortunately, Janelle Reed's three-point attempt at the buzzer caught the glass and skimmed off the rim, and SVC dropped to 3-7 on the year.

1/5 - Geneva

The Lady Bearcats were unable to come out on top in a defensive struggle with Geneva College, falling 54-45 to the Golden Tornadoes in Beaver Falls.

Saint Vincent and Geneva combined to shoot just 28 percent from the field, but the Golden Tornadoes cashed in on a number of missed SVC opportunities down the stretch to capture the home win.

Caryn Glassbrenner led the Lady Bearcats with 16 points and 10 rebounds, picking up her second straight double-double in the losing effort.  Janelle Reed was the only other SVC player to score in double digits, adding 12 points.

The game started off at a slow pace, with the two teams combining for just 12 points (with a 6-6 tie) 10 minutes into the game.

Four consecutive points from Glassbrenner tied the game at 16 with four minutes until the half, but Geneva scored eight of the contest's next 10 points to go up by six- at 24-18- with 1:30 until the intermission.  Ashley Campbell and Laura Klimchock then scored two points apiece to bring the Bearcats to within two at 24-22 at halftime.

The Lady Bearcats looked ready to take control of the game after halftime, as Reed scored five points in a span of 40 seconds to give SVC its first lead of night at 27-24.

Saint Vincent was unable to extend on its lead, however, missing a number of high percentage shots from close distance.  Geneva was able to capitalize on the Lady Bearcat miscues, eventually going on a 13-3 run totake a 39-34 lead with nine minutes left in regulation.

After trading baskets over the next several moments, visiting SVC then used strong defense, forcing turnovers on three straight Geneva possessions, to creep back into the game.  Another basket from Campbell and then four straight points from Glassbrenner brought the Lady Bearcats to within two- 47-45- with 1:30 remaining to play.

Geneva then used the clock to its advantage, and SVC was forced to foul. The Golden Tornadoes made seven straight free throws over the final minute to seal the win.

As indicated by the final score, both offenses struggled throughout the contest. The Lady Bearcats connected on 15 of 58 attempts from the field (25.5 percent),while Geneva didn't fare much better, going 17-57 (29 percent).  From long range, SVC hit two of 14 attempts (both by Reed), while Geneva connected on only four of 20 shots from behind the arc.

Golden Tornado center Allyson Clarke led all scorers with 18 points, while adding a game-high 12 rebounds.  Teammate Renee Rawding added 14 points, while Michawn Rich grabbed 11 boards.  As a team, Geneva out-rebounded SVC by a 52-37 margin.

1/9 - Bethany

Despite a furious late comeback attempt, the Lady Bearcats were defeated at Bethany College by a 99-88 score.

Laura Klimchock led all scorers with 28 points, while Janelle Reed added 26 and Maria Baroffio came off the bench to score 14 for SVC.

The game was close early on, with threes from Baroffio and Reed giving the Lady Bearcats a 16-15 lead eight minutes into play.  Bethany then answered in a big way, outscoring SVC 28-9 over the next seven minutes to take a 43-25 advantage with four minutes left until halftime.

SVC then finished the half on a 12-8 run, with Reed and Klimchock scoring five points apiece,to take a 51-37 deficit into halftime.

The Bison came out of the intermission on fire, forcing 11 SVC turnovers over the first 10 minutes to go up 71-48.

The Bethany lead hovered around 20 points for the next several moments until it was the Lady Bearcats' turn to take control.

Trailing 80-58 with 5:45 left to play, the Lady Bearcats began to creep back into it.  The SVC defense held the Bison scoreless on five straight trips down the court, forcing two turnovers, while Reed scored five points in a 45 second span.  Klimchock then took over, scoring 12 points over the next 2:30, cutting the Bethany advantage to 89-80, the closest that SVC had been since midway through the first half.

Bethany pushed its lead back up to 11, 91-81, with 1:26 to go, but two free-throws from Kayla Marghella cut the SVC deficit back into single digits at 91-83.

It was as close as the Lady Bearcats could get, however, as Bethany hit five free throws over the final 55 seconds to hold off the SVC rally.

The Lady Bearcats shot 47 percent from the field, including 52 percent in a second half in which they outscored the Bison 51-48.  However, SVC committed a season-high 35 turnovers.

1/12 - Thiel

Showcasing a stifling defense and strong rebounding, the Lady Bearcats coasted to an 84-61 win over Thiel College at the Carey Center.

Saint Vincent junior Janelle Reed led all scorers with 32 points, while teammate Laura Klimchock added 18.  The Lady Bearcat defense forced 31 turnovers and picked up 19 steals, while SVC also had its best performance of the season on the glass, out-rebounding the Tomcats 46-38.

Thiel started hot, scoring the game's first six points.  SVC then regrouped, with a three from Reed giving the Lady Bearcats their first lead of the night, 12-10, with 13:10 left in the first half.

The game then went back-and-forth, with three ties and four lead changes over the next three minutes, until the Lady Bearcats seized control.

SVC went on a 10-0 run in a three-minute span, capped off with a Lauren Reilly bucket at the 7:13 mark, to go up 24-16.  Thiel brought it to within three, 24-21, but SVC then outscored the Tomcats 15-6 over the final four minutes of the half, taking a 39-27 advantage into halftime.

After the intermission, the Lady Bearcats picked up right where they left off, embarking on a 12-2 run, capped off by a Kathy Bianco bucket, to go up by 20, 58-38, with 10 minutes remaining.  Five minutes later, SVC enjoyed its largest lead of the night, 74-49, when Reed hit her third three-pointer of the night.  The teams then shared buckets the remainder of the way, and SVC coasted to the big 23-point win.

Ashley Campbell enjoyed a solid all-around night for the Lady Bearcats, dishing five assists, picking up four steals, and grabbing seven rebounds, sharing the team lead with Maria Baroffio and Reilly.

1/16 - W&J

The visiting Washington & Jefferson College Presidents defeated the Lady Bearcats 83-57 in the Carey Center.

Janelle Reed and Laura Klimchock each led the Lady Bearcats with 15 points.

The Lady Bearcats started slowly, as W&J raced out to leads of 13-3 and 31-13 in the first half, before taking a 41-20 lead into intermission.  Over the first 20 minutes, SVC connected on just five of 31 field goal attempts (16 percent), and the Presidents outrebounded SVC 31-15.

W&J continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Lady Bearcats 23-9 over the first six minutes to go up 64-29.

Despite starting slowly, the Lady Bearcats did finish with a flurry, outscoring W&J 26-11 over the final nine minutes, with Klimchock scoring six points over that span and Kathy Bianco and Brittany Hall five apiece.  It was too little, too late, however, as the Presidents improved to 10-4.

W&J was led by 15 points from Stephanie Smith, while Maggie Gibson recorded the double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  For the game, the Presidents grabbed 57 rebounds compared to 29 by SVC.

1/19 - Grove City

The Lady Bearcats nearly overcame a 14-point second half deficit, but lost to Grove City on the road, 65-54.

After a see-saw battle in the first half, SVC trailed by just one at the break, 29-28.  Grove City then hit clutch shots in the first part of the second frame, opening the lead to 48-34 with 10:23 left in the game.

Trailing 50-37 with 9:15 remaining, SVC embarked on a 15-4 run, with Laura Klimchock scoring nine points in the six-minute span.  Her jumper with 3:09 left made it 54-52 in favor of Grove City.  After the Wolverines increased the lead to four, Klimchock again scored to cut it back to two with just 2:07 left.

However, Grove City once again found the shooting touch, scoring the game's final nine points.

Klimchock and Janelle Reed each scored 16 for Saint Vincent (4-11).  Caryn Glassbrenner grabbed 9 rebounds, while Ashley Campbell recorded 4 steals.

1/23 - Thomas More

The Lady Bearcats were unable to topple undefeated Thomas More, falling 62-50 to the visiting Saints.

Saint Vincent trailed by single digits throughout much of the second half, but Thomas More, ranked third nationally by the USA Today and ESPN, was able to hold off Saint Vincent and win its 16th straight contest to open the season.

SVC's Janelle Reed led all scorers with 13 points, while Laura Klimchock added 11.  Teammate Caryn Glassbrenner grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

After Thomas More scored the first four points of the game, the Lady Bearcats answered right back, scoring seven tallies in a three minute span to go up 7-6 on an Ashley Benzio basket.

The Saints responded in a big way, using a long 14-0 run to go up 25-11 with six minutes left until intermission.  Saint Vincent then chipped away at the TMC lead, and took a 32-20 deficit into halftime, with Klimchock scoring five points over the final four minutes of the frame.

Thomas More scored two quick baskets to open the second half, but baskets on consecutive trips by Klimchock, Ashley Campbell, Glassbrenner, and Lauren Reilly brought the Lady Bearcats to within seven, 35-28, with 14 minutes left to play.

The Saints again pushed their lead up to 14, 43-29, but the Lady Bearcats went on a 9-2 run with buckets from Kathy Bianco and Gabbie Kassis sandwiched between a pair of jumpers from Maria Baroffio to make the score 45-38 in favor of Thomas More with 8:40 left in regulation.

After Thomas More's Alex Gee hit a pair of treys in a one-minute span to give the Saints a 52-41 lead at the six-minute mark, Klimchock scored to once again bring the hosts to within single digits.

It was as close as the Lady Bearcats would get, however, as they essentially traded baskets with the Saints over the final five minutes.  The Lady Bearcats were also hampered by foul trouble, as they committed their seventh team foul just nine minutes into the second half, and the Saints took advantage, hitting seven free throws over the games final minutes.

The Lady Bearcat inside game was strong throughout the game, as Glassbrenner added four blocked shots and five points to her nine rebounds, while Reilly had six points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

1/26 - Westminster

The Lady Bearcats snapped their four game losing streak in a big way, defeating Westminster 91-64 at the Carey Center.

SVC's Janelle Reed led all scorers with 31 points, while teammate Caryn Glassbrenner tied her own school record with seven blocked shots, while adding 11 points. Laura Klimchock's 17 points and Ashley Campbell's career-high 15 rounded out the double-digit scorers for the SVC.  In all, nine Saint Vincent players scored at least one point.

The Lady Bearcats led throughout, and used a 15-0 run in the game's opening minutes, with nine points coming from Reed, to open up a 19-5 lead just six minutes into play.

The Titans cut their deficit to nine, 28-19, with six minutes left in the half, but Reed, Glassbrenner, Campbell, and Lauren Reilly each scored a pair of buckets over the final stages of the half to take a 44-29 lead into the intermission.

Saint Vincent picked up right where it left off to open the second half, with a Klimchock bucket sandwiched between two Reed three-pointers to put the Lady Bearcats up 55-31 with 17 minutes left to play.

The Lady Bearcat lead continued to hover around 25 points over the final 15 minutes of play, and grew to as large as 29 on two seperate occasions- on a Kathy Bianco three with seven minutes left, and later on when Klimchock hit her final basket of the night, putting the Lady Bearcats up 86-57 with four minutes left to play.

For the game, the Lady Bearcats shot a season-high 55 percent from the field, while the Titans were only able to convert on 34 percent of their shots.  SVC's defense also forced 26 Westminster turnovers, with Reed leading both sides with four steals.

1/30 - Chatham

The Lady Bearcats won their second straight, going on the road to defeat Chatham University 71-69 in overtime.

SVC's Ashley Campbell put back an offensive rebound to tie the game at the end of regulation, and the Lady Bearcats then outscored the Cougars 7-5 over the extra session.

Janelle Reed and Laura Klimchock each scored 19 points for SVC, while Caryn Glassbrenner scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double.

The two teams shared the lead early on in the game before the Lady Bearcats used an 11-0 run to go up 21-12 with six minutes left until halftime.  Chatham closed to within five, 26-21, with four minutes left, but SVC then ended the half on a 7-2 run, with four points coming from Glassbrenner, to take a 33-22 advantage into the intermission.

Saint Vincent held onto the lead for the first 14 minutes of the second half, until Chatham scored 10 unanswered points to go up 51-49 with 5:30 left, reclaiming the lead for the first time since the eight minute mark in the first half.

Chatham's advantage swelled to seven, at 61-54, with 1:12 left to play, but the Lady Bearcats closed the half with a fury.  Maura Wahl hit a jumper to pull to within five, and then Klimchock drained a three-pointer to make the score 61-59 in favor of the Cougars.

Chatham answered with a free throw, but then Reed hit from long distance to tie the game at 62 with 30 seconds left.  The Cougars made two more from the charity stripe, but Campbell's put back off of a missed jumper sent the game into overtime.

Two free throws from Klimchock gave the Lady Bearcats the first two points of the extra session, but Chatham eventually came back to gain a 69-67 lead with 1:30 left to play.  Campbell tied it up once again with another bucket at the one-minute mark, and then the junior point guard hit a pair of free throws over the final 20 seconds to seal the road win for SVC.

The SVC defense was strong throughout the game, forcing 27 Chatham turnovers and holding the Cougars to just a 33 percent mark from the field.  The Lady Bearcats picked up 16 steals, led by eight from Reed.

2/2 - Waynesburg

The Lady Bearcats survived an upset bid  by Waynesburg University, escaping with a 61-55 road victory.

Janelle Reed led five Saint Vincent double-digit scorers, as she scored13 points, while Maria Baroffio added 12, Ashley Campbell 11, and Laura Klimchock and Caryn Glassbrenner 10 apiece.

The game got off to a slow start, as the teams were scoreless until Lauren Reilly made it 2-0 SVC at the 15:20 mark of the first half.  Waynesburg then responded, scoring nine unanswered points to go up 9-2 just two minutes later.

The Yellow Jackets then used strong three-point shooting to expand their lead to 20-11 with 7:45 left in the first frame, with Marquis Demniak nailing three treys in a two-minute span.

Saint Vincent countered with a big run of its own, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 14-4 over a five minute span to take a 25-24 advantage on a Baroffio lay up with just under two minutes left in the half.   The hosts then scored the final four points of the half, and the Lady Bearcats trailed 28-25 heading into the intermission.

Reed started the second half with a flurry, scoring seven points over the first two minutes of the final frame, giving the Lady Bearcats their first lead, 33-30, since five minutes into the first half.

The Lady Bearcat advantage eventually reached six, at 47-41, when Kathy Bianco made a runner through the paint with nine minutes left, and again on a Klimchock bucket that put SVC up 49-43 at the five minute mark.

SVC then went cold, and Klimchock's bucket turned out to be the final field goal of the night for the Lady Bearcats.   The Yellow Jackets brought it to within one on three seperate occasions over the final two minutes, but SVC was up to the task at the foul line, making 12 free throws in 14 attempts in the closing moments to hold off upstart Waynesburg and win its third straight.

Each team connected on 18 field goals for the contest, but the difference in the game was at the charity stripe, as the Lady Bearcats hit a total of 22 free throws, while the Yellow Jackets went just 12 of 21 from the line.

After Klimchock hit four straight foul shots, the Lady Bearcats trailed just 48-47 with a minute left, but Clarke answered with a basket to give the Golden Tornadoes a three point lead with 30 ticks left on the clock.

Geneva got the ball back after an SVC turnover, and the Lady Bearcats quickly fouled, with Geneva's Renee Rawding making just the front end of the bonus.  The Lady Bearcats had one final chance to tie the game, but were unable to get off a clean shot in the final seconds, allowing Geneva to escape with the comeback win.

While the Lady Bearcat offense shot just 31 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers, the defense was solid, holding the Golden Tornadoes to just 31 percent from the field, and 2-12 from behind the arc, while forcing 18 turnovers and blocking nine shots.

SVC started slowly, spotting Thiel a 10-2 lead seven minutes into play.  The Lady Bearcats then battled back, eventually taking a 23-22 lead with two minutes left in the half on a three from Maria Baroffio, before the teams went into the intermission tied at 25.
