SVC Women's Basketball

2/22: Lady Bearcats' season ends

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat basketball season ended on Tuesday night with a 92-71 loss at Shawnee State in the first round of the American Mideast Conference Tournament.

Kristin Myers led all scorers with 21, while Sarah Rockwell added 19.  Chanell Wade scored 10 points and added 5 rebounds for SVC.

The Lady Bearcats end the year with a record of 11-19, but were able to continue their 22-year streak of making it to the post-season.

2/19: Rockwell, Myers lead SVC to victory

It was all Saint Vincent on Saturday evening, as coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady Bearcats soundly defeated the visiting Point Park Pioneers 82-64.

Kristin Myers led all scorers, as the Lady Bearcat guard poured in 29 points. Senior teammate Sarah Rockwell, playing in front of the home crowd for the final time in her career, scored 24 to go with nine steals and five rebounds. Chanell Wade, the only other senior on SVC's roster, also went out in style, recording a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bearcats came out of the gates strong, jumping out to a 17-2 lead, and entered halftime leading 41-30.  Zawacki's squad then used a 20-0 run midway through the second half to pull ahead 70-40 and put away a pesky Pioneer bunch.

Lynn Newson led Point Park with 23 points.

2/15: Geneva defeats SVC

Despite 20 points from Sarah Rockwell, the Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats fell at the hands of the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in Beaver Falls, 63-51.

SVC had an opportunity to clinch a post-season berth, but must now wait until later in the week for the chance, falling to 10-7 in the American Mideast Conference.  The fifth-place Lady Bearcats still hold the edge over Geneva (8-8) for the final position in the conference tournament, which will begin next Tuesday, February 22.

Rockwell's performance included shooting 13-for-16 from the free throw line.  Kristin Myers was the only other Lady Bearcat in double-figures, scoring 11.  Chanell Wade added six points and a team-high six rebounds, but SVC was out-rebounded by GC on the night, 45-26.

Geneva held a two-point lead at the half (27-25).  SVC kept it close until there were five minutes remaining (46-42), before Geneva started to pull away.  A bevy of foul shots in the closing minutes increased the lead to 12 at the buzzer.

2/12: Lady Bearcats lose to Daemen

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats were able to keep up with first-place Daemen College for 20 minutes, but the reigning AMC North Champions were too tough in the second half, as SVC fell by a score of 87-62.

SVC trailed by just four at the half, 35-31.

Sarah Rockwell had a team-high 21 for the Lady Bearcats, who fall to 10-6 in the division.  Kristin Myers added 15 points, while Jodie Vick chipped in 11 and Maura Connelly scored eight.

Chanell Wade was SVC's top rebounder, with 7.  Vick grabbed five boards, and Connelly added five assists.

2/10: Lady Bearcats drop non-conference game

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats dropped a non-conference game on the road against Pitt-Johnstown by a score of 74-58.

2/8: Lady Bearcats defeat Carlow on the road

2/5: Lady Bearcats win exciting Senior Night contest

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats earned a vital win in American Mideast Conference game on Saturday night at the Carey Center, defeating Notre Dame College by a score of 84-82.

The Lady Bearcat seniors performed admirably on their night, as forward Chanell Wade scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds and guard Sarah Rockwell netted 16.  Junior Kristin Myers was the third Lady Bearcat in double figures, as she scored 15.

The Lady Bearcats trailed by as many as seven with four minutes remaining, and then sophomore guard Mandy Clevenger hit two three-pointers off of consecutive posessions to bring SVC back into the game.  A three-pointer by Sarah Rockwell gave SVC the lead with less than a minute to play, and served as the game-winning shot.

Overall, it was a torrid second half offensively for the Lady Bearcats, as they shot 64 percent from the field and 56 percent from behind the arc while they scored 54 points.   For the game, coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady Bearcats posted an impressive 55 percent field goal percentage.

The Falcons of Notre Dame were led by freshman Sarah Dia, who came off the bench to score 19.  Falcon forward Amanda Blazetic added 12, to go along with 8 rebounds.

Saint Vincent moved to 9-5 in the AMC North, which greatly improves their chances of making the postseason.  NDC fell to 8-5.

2/1: SVC defeats Seton Hill on the road

It was a great night for Saint Vincent basketball, as the Lady Bearcats and Bearcats earned two key victories in American Mideast Conference competition over crosstown rival Seton Hill University.

In game one, freshman Laura Klimchock led the charge as the Lady Bearcats downed SHU by a score of 73-60.  Klimchock spent as much time at the foul line and on the floor as she did running the SVC offense, in a game that was laden with contact.  In all, 50 fouls were called, 31 of which were on the host Griffins.  Klimchock attempted 13 free throws and made 12, part of her game-high and career-high 23 points.

Kristin Myers added 20 for SVC (8-5 AMC, 8-15 overall), while Sarah Rockwell scored 10.  Chanell Wade grabbed 10 rebounds, Rockwell 7 and Jodie Vick had six.

Elena Radenkovic topped the Griffin stat sheet with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

SVC took command early, opening up an 18-10 lead in the first 8:30 of the game.  However, the Lady Bearcats went on a dry spell, failing to score for the next seven minutes.  The defense did a good job holding SHU, and the hosts could only close the gap to 18-16 before Saint Vincent pulled away to a 35-20 halftime lead.

Seton Hill managed to cut the lead to four at the 7:27 mark of the second half (46-42) after a nine-point run, but could get no closer as the Lady Bearcats pulled away one last time.

1/29: SVC wins by 19

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats improved to 7-5 in the AMC North with a 66-45 victory over host Houghton College.

Kristin Myers led all scorers with 21 points in just 25 minutes, including six three-pointers.  She added four steals.  Laura Klimchock scored 11 points, while Chanell Wade grabbed nine rebounds.  In all 10 Lady Bearcats recorded points.

The SVC defense was stifling, creating 24 turnovers and recording 13 steals.  Houghton kept the game close throughout much of the first half, trailing 21-18 with five minutes remaining.  However, the Lady Bearcats closed the first half with an 18-1 run and never looked back.

1/28: RWC defeats SVC behind 38 from Wright

Chanell Wade added 13 and Kristin Myers 11 for SVC, which is now 6-15 overall.

The Lady Bearcats trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before fighting back to tie the game 33-33 at the break.  After taking a brief lead early in the second half, SVC could not prevent a 10-point run for the Lady Raiders, which turned the tide and sealed the victory for the home team.

Daemen was led by Joanna Daugenti, who scored 20 and Jillian LaPoint who netted 17.

Coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady Bearcats led the 24th ranked Wildcats 35-33 at the half, but Daemen went on a 17-5 run to start a second frame which saw SVC connect on only 24 percent of its shots.

The Lady Bearcats pulled to within two with just over a minute left after freshman Laura Klimchock hit a three pointer, connected on a lay up, and stole an inbound pass.  SVC was unable to score again, however, and was forced to foul as the clock ticked down.  Daemen hit every foul shot down the stretch, and pulled out the conference victory.

1/19: Myers leads Lady Bearcats to victory

It was a team effort overall, but junior guard Kristin Myers stole the show in the closing seconds to lead Saint Vincent to a 53-51 comeback victory over Geneva College in an American Mideast Conference North Division game in Latrobe.

With the score tied 51-51, Myers converted on a layup off a pass from teammate Sarah Rockwell to give the Lady Bearcats the lead, then got in front of a Geneva player and caused a charging violation with less than three seconds remaining to clinch the victory for SVC (6-3 AMC, 6-13 overall).

Geneva (4-4, 9-8) led throughout the first half.  The Golden Tornadoes were ahead by 10 late in the half before a SVC run cut it to 22-17 at the break.  The Lady Bearcats forged ahead in the second half thanks in part to strong play from freshman guard Laura Klimchock, who led the team with 13 points.

Roberts Wesleyan hit key shots at the right moments to escape Latrobe with a 90-88 victory over SVC.

The Lady Bearcats (3-1 AMC, 3-11 overall) got off to a 15-11 lead early, before RWC went on a 17-2 run to take an eleven point lead midway through the first half.  SVC battled back to tie the game at 36 at the half.
