2/22: Lady Bearcats' season ends
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat basketball season ended on Tuesday night with
a 92-71 loss at Shawnee State in the first round of the American Mideast
Conference Tournament.
Kristin Myers led all scorers with 21, while Sarah Rockwell added 19.
Chanell Wade scored 10 points and added 5 rebounds for SVC.
The Lady Bearcats end the year with a record of 11-19, but were able to
continue their 22-year streak of making it to the post-season.
2/19: Rockwell, Myers lead SVC to victory
It was all Saint Vincent on Saturday evening, as coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady
Bearcats soundly defeated the visiting Point Park Pioneers 82-64.
Kristin Myers led all scorers, as the Lady Bearcat guard poured in 29
points. Senior teammate Sarah Rockwell, playing in front of the home crowd
for the final time in her career, scored 24 to go with nine steals and five
rebounds. Chanell Wade, the only other senior on SVC's roster, also went
out in style, recording a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bearcats came out of the gates strong, jumping out to a 17-2 lead,
and entered halftime leading 41-30. Zawacki's squad then used a 20-0
run midway through the second half to pull ahead 70-40 and put away a pesky
Pioneer bunch.
Lynn Newson led Point Park with 23 points.
2/15: Geneva defeats SVC
Despite 20 points from Sarah Rockwell, the Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats fell
at the hands of the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in Beaver Falls, 63-51.
SVC had an opportunity to clinch a post-season berth, but must now wait until
later in the week for the chance, falling to 10-7 in the American Mideast
Conference. The fifth-place Lady Bearcats still hold the edge over Geneva
(8-8) for the final position in the conference tournament, which will begin next
Tuesday, February 22.
Rockwell's performance included shooting 13-for-16 from the free throw
line. Kristin Myers was the only other Lady Bearcat in double-figures,
scoring 11. Chanell Wade added six points and a team-high six rebounds,
but SVC was out-rebounded by GC on the night, 45-26.
Geneva held a two-point lead at the half (27-25). SVC kept it close
until there were five minutes remaining (46-42), before Geneva started to pull
away. A bevy of foul shots in the closing minutes increased the lead
to 12 at the buzzer.
2/12: Lady Bearcats lose to Daemen
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats were able to keep up with first-place Daemen
College for 20 minutes, but the reigning AMC North Champions were too tough in
the second half, as SVC fell by a score of 87-62.
SVC trailed by just four at the half, 35-31.
Sarah Rockwell had a team-high 21 for the Lady Bearcats, who fall to 10-6 in
the division. Kristin Myers added 15 points, while Jodie Vick chipped in
11 and Maura Connelly scored eight.
Chanell Wade was SVC's top rebounder, with 7. Vick grabbed five boards,
and Connelly added five assists.
2/10: Lady Bearcats drop non-conference game
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats dropped a non-conference game on the road
against Pitt-Johnstown by a score of 74-58.
Kristin Myers led SVC with 21 points. Also scoring in double-digits
were Sarah Rockwell (12) and Mandy Clevenger (11).
2/8: Lady Bearcats defeat Carlow on the road
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats edged a step closer to a potential playoff
berth with an 87-76 victory over host Carlow.
Senior Chanell Wade led the way with a game-high 21 points and seven
rebounds. Sarah Rockwell added 18, while Jodie Vick poured in 11 and Mandy
Clevenger scored 10.
Maura Connelly added six points, seven rebounds and five steals for SVC,
which improves to 10-5 in the AMC North.
2/5: Lady Bearcats win exciting Senior Night contest
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats earned a vital win in American Mideast
Conference game on Saturday night at the Carey Center, defeating Notre Dame
College by a score of 84-82.
The Lady Bearcat seniors performed admirably on their night, as forward
Chanell Wade scored 19 points to go with eight rebounds and guard Sarah Rockwell
netted 16. Junior Kristin Myers was the third Lady Bearcat in double
figures, as she scored 15.
The Lady Bearcats trailed by as many as seven with four minutes remaining,
and then sophomore guard Mandy Clevenger hit two three-pointers off of
consecutive posessions to bring SVC back into the game. A three-pointer by
Sarah Rockwell gave SVC the lead with less than a minute to play, and
served as the game-winning shot.
Overall, it was a torrid second half offensively for the Lady Bearcats, as
they shot 64 percent from the field and 56 percent from behind the arc while
they scored 54 points. For the game, coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady
Bearcats posted an impressive 55 percent field goal percentage.
The Falcons of Notre Dame were led by freshman Sarah Dia, who came off the
bench to score 19. Falcon forward Amanda Blazetic added 12, to go along
with 8 rebounds.
Saint Vincent moved to 9-5 in the AMC North, which greatly improves their
chances of making the postseason. NDC fell to 8-5.
2/1: SVC defeats Seton Hill on the road
It was a great night for Saint Vincent basketball, as the Lady Bearcats and
Bearcats earned two key victories in American Mideast Conference competition
over crosstown rival Seton Hill University.
In game one, freshman Laura Klimchock led the charge as the Lady Bearcats
downed SHU by a score of 73-60. Klimchock spent as much time at the foul
line and on the floor as she did running the SVC offense, in a game that was
laden with contact. In all, 50 fouls were called, 31 of which were on the
host Griffins. Klimchock attempted 13 free throws and made 12, part of her
game-high and career-high 23 points.
Kristin Myers added 20 for SVC (8-5 AMC, 8-15 overall), while Sarah Rockwell
scored 10. Chanell Wade grabbed 10 rebounds, Rockwell 7 and Jodie Vick had
six.
Elena Radenkovic topped the Griffin stat sheet with 15 points and 14
rebounds.
SVC took command early, opening up an 18-10 lead in the first 8:30 of the
game. However, the Lady Bearcats went on a dry spell, failing to score for
the next seven minutes. The defense did a good job holding SHU, and the
hosts could only close the gap to 18-16 before Saint Vincent pulled away to a
35-20 halftime lead.
Seton Hill managed to cut the lead to four at the 7:27 mark of the second
half (46-42) after a nine-point run, but could get no closer as the Lady
Bearcats pulled away one last time.
1/29: SVC wins by 19
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats improved to 7-5 in the AMC North with a 66-45
victory over host Houghton College.
Kristin Myers led all scorers with 21 points in just 25 minutes, including
six three-pointers. She added four steals. Laura Klimchock scored 11
points, while Chanell Wade grabbed nine rebounds. In all 10 Lady Bearcats
recorded points.
The SVC defense was stifling, creating 24 turnovers and recording 13
steals. Houghton kept the game close throughout much of the first half,
trailing 21-18 with five minutes remaining. However, the Lady Bearcats
closed the first half with an 18-1 run and never looked back.
1/28: RWC defeats SVC behind 38 from Wright
The Lady Bearcats fell to 6-5 in the American Mideast Conference with an
88-75 loss at the hands of Roberts Wesleyan College on the road in Rochester,
NY.
Sarah Rockwell led the Lady Bearcats with 18 points, while Laura Klimchock
added 15 -- including 13 in the second half, but SVC was unable to stop Judy
Wright, one of the top scorers in the nation. Wright pumped in 38 points
and grabbed 9 rebounds to go along with 5 steals, leading RWC (9-1 AMC).
Chanell Wade added 13 and Kristin Myers 11 for SVC, which is now 6-15
overall.
The Lady Bearcats trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before
fighting back to tie the game 33-33 at the break. After taking a brief
lead early in the second half, SVC could not prevent a 10-point run for the Lady
Raiders, which turned the tide and sealed the victory for the home team.
1/22: Lady Bearcats fall to Daemen
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats fell to 6-4 in the American Mideast
Conference's North Division, losing to Daemen College by the final score of
66-56.
SVC was led in scoring by senior Sarah Rockwell, who netted 18 and added four
steals, while junior Kristin Myers scored 15 to go with four assists. Lady
Bearcat senior forward Chanell Wade had a stellar night on the glass, grabbing
13 rebounds, including nine on the offensive side.
Daemen was led by Joanna Daugenti, who scored 20 and Jillian LaPoint who
netted 17.
Coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady Bearcats led the 24th ranked Wildcats 35-33 at
the half, but Daemen went on a 17-5 run to start a second frame which saw SVC
connect on only 24 percent of its shots.
The Lady Bearcats pulled to within two with just over a minute left after
freshman Laura Klimchock hit a three pointer, connected on a lay up, and stole
an inbound pass. SVC was unable to score again, however, and was forced to
foul as the clock ticked down. Daemen hit every foul shot down the
stretch, and pulled out the conference victory.
1/19: Myers leads Lady Bearcats to victory
It was a team effort overall, but junior guard Kristin Myers stole the show
in the closing seconds to lead Saint Vincent to a 53-51 comeback victory over
Geneva College in an American Mideast Conference North Division game in
Latrobe.
With the score tied 51-51, Myers converted on a layup off a pass from
teammate Sarah Rockwell to give the Lady Bearcats the lead, then got in front of
a Geneva player and caused a charging violation with less than three seconds
remaining to clinch the victory for SVC (6-3 AMC, 6-13 overall).
Geneva (4-4, 9-8) led throughout the first half. The Golden Tornadoes
were ahead by 10 late in the half before a SVC run cut it to 22-17 at the
break. The Lady Bearcats forged ahead in the second half thanks in part to
strong play from freshman guard Laura Klimchock, who led the team with 13
points.
Rockwell and Myers each finished with 10 points. Jen Rawding of Geneva
led all scorers with 15. Geneva's Allyson Clark grabbed 13
rebounds.
1/15: Rockwell scores 28 in SVC loss
Despite 28 points from senior Sarah Rockwell, the Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats
fell to 5-3 in the conference with an 85-76 loss on the road against Notre Dame
College of Ohio. The Falcons led 46-42 at the half.
Rockwell was 10-of-15 from the floor, incluing a pair of
three-pointers, and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. She also added
six steals.
Laura Klimchock added 12, while Kristen Darrow scored 10 points for SVC,
which falls to 5-13 overall.
1/14: Lady Bearcats net win over Ursuline
Four players scored in double digits for the Lady Bearcats, as Coach Kristin
Zawacki's squad defeated Ursuline 82-59.
Kristin Myers led all scorers with 18, while Jodie Vick scored 15 and grabbed
six rebounds. Sarah Rockwell had 13 points to go with four steals,
and Laura Klimchock scored 10.
The Bearcats now improve to 5-12 overall and 5-2 in the American Mideast
Conference's North Division. Ursuline falls to 1-15/0-6.
1/11: Lady Bearcats fall to Griffins
The Lady Bearcats dropped their second American Mideast Conference North
Division game in a row, losing to crosstown rival Seton Hill, 73-61.
The game was tied 30-30 at the half, and Coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady
Bearcats held the lead in the early stages of the second half. SVC fell
cold, however, and Seton Hill took advantage of numerous Lady Bearcat turnovers
to pull away.
Kristin Myers led the way for SVC, scoring 20 points and grabbing five
rebounds. Sarah Rockwell scored 17 and dished out five assists.
Caryn Glassbrenner grabbed a career and game-high 13 rebounds in the losing
effort.
For the Griffins, Elena Radenkovic scored 21, Kaleeda Jenkins 15, and Meghan
Buck 11.
1/8: Lady Bearcats overpower Houghton
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats improved to 4-1 in the American Mideast
Conference North Division with a 62-28 victory over Houghton College.
The Saint Vincent defense was stifling, allowing just 10 points in the first
half while putting up 35.
Sarah Rockwell led SVC with 13 points in just 17 minutes of play. Laura
Klimchock had 9 and Rachel Karpency scored 7.
1/7: Lady Bearcats fall in OT thriller
In a battle of unbeaten conference foes, the Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats and
Roberts Wesleyan College Lady Raiders had to go to overtime to settle a
challenge for first place in the American Mideast Conference.
Roberts Wesleyan hit key shots at the right moments to escape Latrobe with a
90-88 victory over SVC.
The Lady Bearcats (3-1 AMC, 3-11 overall) got off to a 15-11 lead early,
before RWC went on a 17-2 run to take an eleven point lead midway through the
first half. SVC battled back to tie the game at 36 at the half.
Saint Vincent then opened the second half with a 9-point run to make it
45-36, and eventually stretched the lead to 13, at 51-38 before the Lady Raiders
(5-0 AMC, 12-3 overall) launched a comeback, eventually tying the game,
59-59.
The lead changed hands several times before SVC freshman Laura
Klimchock added four straight points to make it 73-69. Jodie
Vick hit a 3-pointer to give SVC a 76-71 lead with a minute remaining.
With just 4.5 seconds remaining, the visitors had the ball, trailing
76-73. Judy Wright, the second leading scorer in the nation, nailed a
three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
Junior Kristin Myers kept the Lady Bearcats in the game with 7 points in
the extra period, but Roberts Wesleyan played well and held a two-point
advantage before missing a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left. Saint
Vincent had a final opportunity to tie, but could not convert in the closing
seconds.
Wright led all scorers with 25, despite a slow start which saw her make just
3 of 16 shots from the floor in the first half.
Myers led the Lady Bearcats with 23, followed by Klimchock with a career-high
21. Sarah Rockwell had 14, Vick 12 and freshman Caryn
Glassbrenner added 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
12/21: Ohio Valley wins by two over SVC
The Lady Bearcats dropped their second consecutive game in the Avalon Classic
at Gannon University, as Ohio Valley College defeated SVC by a score of
69-67.
Chanell Wade had a double-double for SVC, scoring 17 points and adding 17
rebounds. Sarah Rockwell was SVC's top scorer, with 18 points,
while Jodie Vick and Kristin Myers each added 12.
12/20: Lady Bearcats fall in tourney opener
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats dropped a non-conference game to Lewis
University (IL) in the opener of the Gannon Avalon Classic
Tournament. The final score was 89-57.
Kristin Myers led the Lady Bearcats with 13 points, followed by Laura
Klimchock with 12 and Sarah Rockwell with 11. Myers had a team-high five
rebounds.
12/11: Lady Bearcats improve to 3-0 in AMC North
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats improved to 3-0 in the American Mideast
Conference North Division with a 71-37 victory over visiting Ursuline
College.
Eleven Lady Bearcats shared the points as SVC moved to 3-8 overall, dropping
Ursuline to 1-9, 0-4 in the division. Senior Sarah Rockwell led the way
with 14 points in just 19 minutes. Kristen Darrow, a sophomore, added
9.
The Lady Bearcat defense recorded 18 steals, led by Rockwell's four, and
outrebounded UC by a 45-34 margin. In all, Ursuline had 29 turnovers.
12/2: Walsh downs Lady Bearcats
Despite a double-double from Chanell Wade and 19 points from Kristin
Myers, the Lady Bearcats suffered a 76-68 loss in a non-conference bout with
Walsh.
Wade scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Sarah
Rockwell added 15 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Bearcats fell
to 2-8 overall (2-0 AMC North).
SVC trailed 36-27 at the half, but closed the deficit to five with less than
two minutes remaining in the game on a three pointer from Myers. It was as
close as the Lady Bearcats would get, however, as Walsh went on an 8-5 run
to end the game.
11/30: Myers leads SVC to conference victory
Kristin Myers led the Lady Bearcats to their second straight conference
win, as SVC defeated rival Point Park University.
The Lady Bearcats expanded a 10-point halftime lead with a 13-0 run in the
first five minutes of the second half, en route to a 70-47 victory. SVC
(2-0 American Mideast Conference, 2-7 overall) was led by Myers, who scored 23
points. She was 4-7 from outside the 3-point arc and a perfect 5-for-5
from the free throw line. Sarah Rockwell added 14 points and Jodie Vick
scored 10 for the Lady Bearcats. Chanell Wade was SVC's top rebounder with

SVC led 31-21 at halftime, thanks in part to 15 points by Myers.
11/23: Lady Bearcats win home opener
Coach Kristen Zawacki's Lady Bearcats earned their first victory in what was
not only the home opener, but also77-57.
SVC had three scorers in double digits. Laura
Klimchock scored 17 points off the bench in just 20 minutes, including 9
free throws in as many attempts. Sarah Rockwell also tallied
17, while Chanell Wade added 13.
Rockwell, a guard, grabbed 10 rebounds, while Wade added 8. Sophomore
point guard Maura Connelly had four steals.
Four Carlow Celtics reached double figures in points, led by Jaqueline Muir's
15.
Saint Vincent led 34-29 at the half before pulling away midway through the
final 20 minutes.
11/20: Wade equalls record in SVC loss
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat basketball team dropped their seventh game in
as many tries this year, 71-47 at the hands of Indiana University of
Pennsylvania on Saturday night. The loss came despite a record night on
the boards for senior Chanell Wade.
Wade grabbed 18 rebounds -- 9 each on offense and defense -- to equal a
school mark first established in 1993 by Michelene Furko and equalled in 1998 by
Fredrike Susnar. Wade also added 7 points.
Kristin Myers scored 11 to lead the Lady Bearcats, who shot just 33% from the
floor, 15% from outside the 3-point arc.
11/19: Lady Bearcats fall to UPJ
In the opening game of the IUP Tipoff Tournament, the Lady Bearcats fell to
Pitt-Johnstown by the score of 72-59.
Senior Sarah Rockwell scored a team-high 19 points, shooting 5-8 from
the three point line. Freshman Laura Klimchock had a career high 12,
and senior Chanell Wade grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lady Bearcats, who fall to
0-6 on the year.
SVC and UPJ were tied 28-28 at the half, but the Lady Cats went on a
44-31 run to put the Lady Bearcats away.
11/16: Lady Bearcats drop non-conference game
The Lady Bearcats were defeated by Malone College on the road Tuesday night
by the score of 87-53.
Junior Kristin Myers (Ford City, PA) led SVC in scoring with 11
points. Sophomore Kristin Darrow chipped in 10 and sophomore
Theresa Adams added nine.
11/12-13: Lady Bearcats compete in Rio Tournament
The Lady Bearcats have wrapped up a weekend in Southern Ohio at the
University of Rio Grande's Clarence Bevo Tournament.
On Friday, SVC lost to the host school by a score of 68-50. The Lady
Bearcats struggled from the floor, hitting just 2 of 20 three-point
attempts. They fell behind by six points at the half, and lost ground in
the second half.
Kristin Myers was the only Lady Bearcat in double-figures, scoring 12
points. Chanell Wade grabbed eight rebounds, while Myers added 7.
Jodie Vick had 9 points and two blocked shots for SVC (0-3).
On Saturday, the Lady Bearcats made a valiant comeback, but lost to
Cumberland College by a score of 68-66. SVC trailed by 14 points, 42-28,
at the half.
Kristin Myers led SVC with 22 points. Sarah Rockwell added 14, while
Chanell Wade grabbed seven rebounds. Rockwell was 6-for-6 at the free throw
line, extending her school record to 43 straight.
11/6: Rockwell scores 19, extends streak in loss
The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats fell to 0-2 after a 69-63 loss to Brescia
University (KY) on Saturday afternoon, but remained in the action thanks to a
strong effort from senior guard Sarah Rockwel.
Rockwell scored a game-high 19 points and added 7 steals to lead SVC.
She also connected on all three free throw attempts, extending her school-record
streak to 37, dating back to last February.
Kristin Myers added 18 and Mandy Clevenger had 12 points for Saint
Vincent. Chanell Wade grabbed six rebounds.
11/5: Lady Bearcats drop opener
The SVC Lady Bearcats dropped their season opener on Friday afternoon to
Shawnee State by the score of 78-64.
Junior Kristin Myers led all scorers with 16 points to go with six
rebounds. Senior Chanell Wade added 14 points and senior Sarah
Rockwell netted 12.
