The Lady Bearcats played well despite falling to Bridgewater College on the road in Virginia by a score of 1-0. The game was scoreless at the half, and goalie Jackie Novak and the SVC defense kept the team in the game throughout.

The Lady Bearcats picked up their first win of the 2008 campaign,
shutting out the College of Notre Dame (MD) 4-0 in the second day of
the Bridgewater College tournament. Maryellen Baverso gave SVC a
1-0 lead, scoring on a breakaway. Sam Larkin, Katie Tamagno and Megan
Vargo also added goals for SVC, while Jackie Novak picked up the
shutout in goal. All four goals came in the first half.

Despite posting 23 shots on goal, the Lady Bearcats were defeated on the road by Rosemont College by a 1-0 score. Saint
Vincent came out strong, recording 17 shots, including 11 on goal, in
the first 35 minutes of play, but Rosemont goalie Adriann Demchenko
turned them all aside. Rosemont, which recorded just two shots
for the contest, broke the scoreless deadlock 10 minutes into the
second half, with Elizabeth Kemp converting on a penalty corner to go
up 1-0. The Lady Bearcats continued the onslaught on Demchenko,
but she remained flawless, turning aside 12 shots in the second half to
record the shutout. SVC finished the contest with a 36-3
advantage in shots, and a 23-1 advantage in shots on goal, while the
Lady Bearcats also had 11 penalty corners compared to Rosemont's four.

The Lady Bearcats were defeated 5-0 at crosstown rival Seton Hill University. Seton
Hill got off to a fast start, when Breanna Wong scored the game's first
goal, on a breakaway, just three minutes into play. SHU's Allegra
Ramos then scored twice in a 10-minute span later in the second half,
and the Lady Bearcats took a 3-0 deficit into halftime. The
Griffins picked up right where they left off after the intermission,
scoring twice in the first five minutes of the second half, taking a
5-0 advantage with 20 minutes left to play. SVC tried to rally,
gaining a number of opportunities in the second half, as the Lady
Bearcats had four shots and four corners, but they were unable to find
the net, dropping their second straight. For the game, Seton Hill outshot SVC 14-6, with Lady Bearcat goalie Jackie Novak making six saves in the losing effort.

The Lady Bearcats picked up a 2-0 victory on the road over Cedar Crest College. Saint Vincent took a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the first half, when Samantha Larkin scored, assisted by Katie Tamagno. Later in the half, Maryellen Baverso tapped in a goal off a perfect corner shot by Tonya David. David had her best game of the season, playing in front of her hometown crowd in Allentown. Megan Vargo picked up the shutout in goal in her first collegiate start, tallying six saves.

The Lady Bearcats scored a pair of goals in the closing moments of the second half to secure a 2-0 home victory over Wilson College.
The game was evenly played throughout the first half, with most of the action taking place in the middle third of the field. Wilson had the only two penalty corners over the first 35 minutes, while SVC posted the only shot of the first period.
Wilson looked to gain the momentum early on in the second half, gaining six penalty corners and three shots over the first eight minutes. The SVC defense stood tall, however, and the game remained deadlocked.
Following Wilson's rally, play opened up, as each team pressed to score the game's first goal. With nine minutes left, Wilson had a prime chance off of a corner, but the ensuing shot from Chelsi Hornbaker was blocked.
The Lady Bearcats then worked their way up the field, and looked to take the lead after a scramble in the net. Wilson goalie Nikola Graftnetterova smothered a pair of SVC attempts, resulting in an SVC corner, but the Lady Bearcats were unable to take the lead.
After two more failed corner attempts from SVC, Wilson looked to bring the ball into Lady Bearcat territory, but a pass was knocked away by Rachel Hill, who forwarded the ball to Katie Tamagno. Tamagno streaked up the field, and found Lauren Scheloske right on the doorstep, who buried the shot for the goal, putting SVC up 1-0 with 2:09 left in regulation.
Just 90 seconds later, after another scramble in front of the net, SVC's Maryellen Baverso knocked a rebound out of the air and into the net for her third goal of the year, closing out the scoring in the Lady Bearcats' 2-0 win.
Lady Bearcat goalie Megan Vargo recorded her second shutout win in as many games, stopping three shots. For the game, the Lady Bearcats outshot the Phoenix 9-5, but Wilson took 14 penalty corners compared to four by SVC.

The Lady Bearcats improved to 4-3 on the season with a 2-1 home win over Wells College. After a scoreless first 10 minutes, the game picked up, with SVC's Katie Tamagno putting the hosts up 1-0 on a deflected shot up front with 24:30 left in the first half. Wells answered just 50 seconds later, when Paige Corneby got through the SVC defense and scored all alone from right in front, tying the game at 1-1. The two teams then played each other evenly over the duration of the first half. SVC had the ball deep in Wells territory on a number of different occasions, but the ensuing shots were either blocked or sent wide. Wells also had a number of prime scoring opportunities, particularly during a two minute stretch in which the Express gained four penalty corners. The SVC defense held strong, however, and the game remained deadlocked at one heading into halftime. The Lady Bearcats were able to regain the lead with just over 24 minutes left in regulation. Tonya David sent a blast toward goal off of a penalty corner, and the ball found the stick of Maryellen Baverso in midair. Her deflection found the net, and SVC went up 2-1. Saint Vincent's defense then locked down, continually refusing to allow Wells to get the ball deep. The Lady Bearcats outshot Wells 8-2 over the final 35 minutes, and failed to allow an Express penalty corner. For the game, SVC enjoyed a 15-9 advantage in shots, and Lady Bearcat goalie Megan Vargo made two saves for the win. Wells goalie Allison Salvatore was also strong in the losing effort, finishing with eight saves.

The Lady Bearcats' three game winning streak came to a close, as Morrisville State defeated SVC 1-0.
The visiting Mustangs scored the game's lone goal at the 15-minute mark of the first half, when Charlotte Brown knocked the ball home on a Morrisville St. penalty corner.
For the rest of the first half, the Lady Bearcats maintained the statistical advantage over the Mustangs, owning the advantage in shots (7-3) and penalty corners (6-3), but SVC was unable to find the net.
In the second half, Morrisville State came out strong, tallying three shots and a pair of corners over the first 10 minutes, but the SVC defense held its ground, and did not allow a Mustaing insurance goal.
Morrisville State's defense was just as strong, however, continually thwarting Lady Bearcat advances.
Saint Vincent had one last opportunity to tie the game, earning a penalty corner after time had expired. A Mustang defender was able to get a stick on the corner blast from Tanya David, clearing the ball to safety and preserving the win.
For the game, SVC outshot Morrisville State 10-8, and the Lady Bearcats had 11 penalty corners to the Mustangs' five.

The Lady Bearcats hung tough, but were defeated 1-0 by Lindenwood University at a chilly Bearcat Field.
Play was even throughout, with the lone goal coming five minutes into the second half, when Lindenwood's Michelle Sturtevant tipped the ball in past SVC goalie Megan Vargo.
SVC had a number of scoring opportunities throughout, tallying nine shots and posting 14 penalty corners.
The best Lady Bearcat chance came at the end of regulation. With two second left on the clock, SVC was granted a penalty corner.
After a large scrum in front of the net, Lindenwood goalie Jennica Albertson smothered the ball. By rule, SVC was granted another penalty corner, after time had expired. The Lady Bearcats again had a number of cracks at the ball, but the Lion defense cleared it, and the game came to an end.
The Lions managed 14 shots on the game, with four on goal, and took nine penalty corners. Albertson made four saves for the shutout.

The Lady Bearcats recorded a 1-0 victory in overtime, defeating Grove City College on Senior Day at Bearcat Field.
SVC controlled play throughout the first half, earning 11 penalty corners and tallying 14 shots, but were unable to find the net thanks to a relentless Grove City defense.
In the second half, the Lady Bearcats again looked to take the lead, possessing the ball deep in Wolverine territory for the majority of play. The Wolverines had a couple of scoring chances late in the half, and earned four penalty corners, but SVC's defense stood strong, with Megan Vargo making a pair of late saves.
In the seven-on-seven overtime, the Lady Bearcats took control from the onset. SVC posted three quick shots and earned a pair of penalty corners. After the second one, Tonya David's shot was kicked out by GCC's keeper, with the rebound coming to Baverso six feet out. She knocked the ball into the net, ending the scoreless tie and giving the Lady Bearcats their fifth win of the year.
Prior to the game, the Lady Bearcats' two seniors, forward Katie Tamagno and defender Katilyn Rauchut, were honored for their four year careers in the Green and Gold.

The visiting Washington & Jefferson Presidents defeated the Lady Bearcats 2-0 on a rain-soaked Bearcat Field.
The Presidents looked to take control early, posting 10 shots of the game's first 12 minutes, but SVC goalie Megan Vargo was strong, making a number of key saves to preserve the early tie.
SVC looked to gain momentum midway through the first, earning three penalty corners in a minute span. Despite possessing the ball deep in President territory, the Lady Bearcats couldn't find pay dirt, and the game remained deadlocked at one.
Momentum then looked to shift toward W&J in the final minutes of the half, as the Presidents gained four late penalty corners. After two more Vargo saves, W&J ended the tie, when Whitney Temple knocked in a ball at close range with just a minute left in the half.
The Presidents added an insurance goal - again following a penalty corner - just two minutes into the second half to go up 2-0, and the game then turned into a defensive struggle.
Over the final 25 minutes of the game, the teams combined for just 11 shots, as the ball remained in the middle third of the field.
The Lady Bearcats had a pair of breakaway opportunities, but the strong W&J defense thwarted any scoring chances, and the game ended 2-0 in favor of the visiting Presidents.

The Lady Bearcats dropped their 2008 home finale, falling 4-0 to Frostburg State.
The visiting Bobcats outshot the Lady Bearcats 23-6, while taking 18 penalty corners to SVC's three.
Brooke Tapman opened the day's scoring for the Bobcats in the game's 14th minute, knocking the ball in after a scramble in front. She wasted little time in giving her team an insurance marker, with another goal three minutes later.
Sammy Stalter put the visitors up 3-0 with 10:25 left in the first half, and the score remained that way through halftime.
The play was even throughout the majority of the second half, and SVC had a number of chances to get on the board. Katie Tamagno appeared to score what would have been the Lady Bearcats' first goal, but play was whistled down, as the officials declared that the shot was taken from outside the desingated circle.
Frostburg State's Amanda Kerstetter closed the scoring out with 10 minutes left, knocking a loose ball into the net from right in front.

The Lady Bearcats were defeated 3-0 by DePauw University in Greencastle, IN.
DePauw came out strong, and took a 1-0 goal just 10 minutes into play on a goal by Meredith Ellis.
The Lady Bearcat defense then went to work, and withstood a DePauw barrage of 12 first half shots, with SVC goalie Megan Vargo making four saves over the first 35 minutes.
The play was even throughout the early stages of the second half, but SVC was unable to find the goal. DePauw then tallied a pair of late insurance goals, with Carolyn Mueller scoring with eight minutes remaining and Katie Sowar finding the net two minutes later to go up 3-0.
Vargo finished the day with eight saves, as DePauw (8-2) rattled off 23 shots.

The Lady Bearcats were defeated on the road 4-1 by Earlham College.
Earlham scored its first goal when Nicole VanScyoc buried a penalty stroke- the first against SVC this season- 13 minutes into play. Cassie Gage gave Earlham its second goal five minutes later, assisted by Anna Tybinko.
Gage's second goal of the day put the hosts up 3-0 just moments into the second half, but SVC's Katie Tamagno broke up the shutout in the game's 55th minute, scoring her third of the year and making the score 3-1.
It was as close as the Lady Bearcats could get, however, as Gage put the game away with her third goal of the game with just 10 seconds left in regulation.
The Lady Bearcats did have a number of chances in the second half, as they out-shot Earlham 9-6 and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners, but Tamagno's goal was the only blemish on goalie Katie McDonough's slate, as she made five saves over the final 35 minutes for the hosts.

SVC's Rachel Hill's first goal of the season, scored midway through the second half, was the difference-maker for the Lady Bearcats, as they improve to 6-9 on the year.
Megan Vargo picked up the victory in goal, her third shutout of the season.

The Lady Bearcats earned their sixth win of the season with a 2-1 triumph on the road over Hood College. SVC
scored first, with Katie Tamagno posting an unassisted goal at the
15:59 mark of the first half. Five minutes later, Samantha Larkin gave
the visitors a 2-0 lead, thanks to an assist from Maryellen Baverso. Ten
minutes later, Hood managed to score to cut the margin in half, but it
wasn't enough, as the Lady Bearcat defense kept the hosts off the board
the remainder of the game to improve to 6-9 on the season. Megan Vargo recorded six saves to earn the win in the net.

The Lady Bearcats were defeated 1-0 in double-overtime by the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD. In
the first half, the Lady Bearcats accounted for three of the half's
four shots, but were unable to find the net, and the game remained
scoreless at halftime. Play picked up in the second half, and the
Lady Bearcats had a number of opportunities to get on the scoreboard,
outshooting the hosts 7-1 while also taking five penalty corners.
Notre Dame goalie Jessica Maier was strong, making five saves, while
SVC goalie Megan Vargo stopped both shots that she faced, and the game
headed into overtime still tied at zero. Must like the previous
stanza, SVC again controlled play throughout, tallying five more
corners, including three in a 45-second span. The Lady Bearcats saw
their best scoring chance of the day with seven minutes left, but Maier
stopped three point-blank shots in a 10-second span to preserve the
scoreless tie. Notre Dame seized momentum in the final overtime
session, and finally ended the tie with six minutes left, when Caitlyn
Quinn scored on a tip-in following a penalty corner. For the
game, SVC outshot its hosts 14-6, but Maier was solid throughout,
making 10 saves on the day, including nine over the second half and two
overtimes. Vargo also played well for the Lady Bearcats in goal,
stopping six shots.
