The Lady Bearcats suffered their first loss of the 2009 season, falling 3-0 at Frostburg State. Breanne Russell opened the day's scoring for the Bobcats in the 18th minute, finding the net after a penalty corner to make the game 1-0. The Bobcats continued to put pressure on the Lady Bearcat defense, tallying 11 shots, but were unable to add to their lead before halftime. Russell scored her second goal of the afternoon just 15 seconds into the second half, and Frostburg's offense continued to press. Lady Bearcat goalie Jackie Novak was strong, making six saves over the second half, but SVC was uanble to cut into the Frostburg lead, and Russell tallied the hat trick on an unassisted goal with 40 seconds remaining in regulation. Frostburg outshot SVC 21-1 on the afternoon, with Novak strong in the losing effort, finishing with eight saves. The Bobcats also enjoyed a 17-1 advantage in penalty corners. With the loss, the Lady Bearcats fall to 1-1 on the young season. The squad returns to action with a pair of home games on Saturday afternoon, hosting Earlham College at 11am and Wells College at 4pm.
