Lady Bearcat field hockey team will welcome a pair of incoming freshmen for the 2009 season, in goalie Bridget Harner and forward Renee Lundquist. Harner, a native of Crofton, MD, is a graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School. A goalie, she put together a solid high school career, and head coach Jym Walters expects her to compete right away for significant time. "I'm excited that we were able to get such a good player from a quality high school like Archbishop Spalding," the coach said. "She's a solid goalie all around, and could see a lot of time right off the bat."
Bridget, the daughter of Barry and Rosanne Harner, is a strong student, and intends on majoring in Biology. Lundquist, a Latrobe native and graduate of Greater Latrobe, was a three-year starter for the Wildcats, and the forward was a top scorer throughout her prep career. "She really was a standout at Greater Latrobe," said Walters. "She had a knack for putting the ball in the net, and she immediately gives us a strong scoring threat." The daughter of Paul and Doreen Lundquist, Renee plans on majoring in Business Management. The Lady Bearcats, coming off of their most successful season in team history in 2008, will open up the 2009 regular season on September 1st, hosting Oberlin College at 5pm.
