The Lady Bearcats were defeated 2-0 by Wilson College in the opening round of the Independent Field Hockey Championship tournament in Chambersburg, PA. After a scoreless first half, Wilson scored two goals over the final 15 minutes of the second stanza to earn the win. For the game, the teams were deadlocked in shots, with seven apiece, but Wilson was granted six penalty corners compared to three for the Lady Bearcats. Jacqueline Novak played all 70 minutes in goal for SVC, making two saves in the losing effort. Nikola Grafftenerova earned the win in goal for the Phoenix, stopping six shots. The Lady Bearcats (5-11) will now face Wells College in the tournament's consolation game on Sunday morning at 10am, while Wilson moves to the tourney championship, facing Frostburg State at 1pm.
