The College of Wooster used a late scoring barrage to defeat Saint Vincent 11-7 in the Lady Bearcats' season opener at Chuck Noll Field.

Saint Vincent sophomore Liz Louison finished with a game high six points, coming on four goals and two assists, but SVC saw the Scots break open a tie game with four unanswered goals over the final 18 minutes to earn the win.

Wooster jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead just three minutes into play, but the Lady Bearcats quickly regrouped.  Louison scored the team's first game of the season, an unassisted tally, eight minutes into play, and then teammate Sarah Peranteau followed with her first goal of the year 90 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2.  SVC was able to gain the lead with 15:28 left in the half, on Louison's second goal of the contest.

The visiting Scots then gained the momentum, scoring three goals over a three-minute span to go ahead 5-3 with 13 minutes left in the opening stanza.  SVC again answered back, with Louison and Lauren Martino scoring just 20 seconds apart to send the game into halftime tied at five.

SVC freshman Anne Roslonski scored the first goal of her career just 40 seconds into the second half, giving the Lady Bearcats the lead once again at 6-5, but the Scots quickly answered with two goals over a 50-second span to go up 7-6 with 26:47 left to play.

Six minutes later, Louison picked up a ground ball in SVC's defensive zone and streaked up the middle of the field through a sea of defenders.  She was fouled in front of the net and was granted a free position shot, which she promptly buried to bring the Lady Bearcats to within one with 20:32 left in regulation.

Wooster went ahead 8-7 with a goal at the 18:50 mark, and the game then turned into a defensive struggle, with neither team able to gain any legitimate scoring opportunities.

The Scots, however, eventually wore down the Lady Bearcat defense, maintaining possession for much of the final 10 minutes of the game, and scoring three goals in the process to hold off the Lady Bearcats and earn the season-opening win.

Wooster, which owned a 20-12 advantage in shots, was led on the scoresheet by Carly Carey, who scored four goals and added an assist.  Nina Dine finished with four points, on three goals and an assist, while Hillary Darragh, Madison Carey, Taryn Higgins, and Becca Worthington all added a goal apiece.

The Lady Bearcats will now have a 10-day layoff before returning to action on March 21st, when they play host to Ohio Wesleyan for a 2pm contest.
