The Lady Bearcats controlled play for the entire 90 minutes in their 3-0 home victory over Franciscan University.

Saint Vincent got on the board early, when Michelle Stepien took a pass at midfield from Carly Duffy and went to the goal untouched.  The Franciscan goalie came out of the box to challenge Stepien, but the SVC forward got around her and knocked the ball into the empty net to give SVC the 1-0 lead seven minutes into play.

Throughout the first half, the SVC offense was continually on the attack, owning a 6-2 advantage in shots over a 25-minute span, but the Lady Bearcats were unable to find the net until the closing seconds of the half.

This time it was Leanna Seminsky's turn to convert on a breakaway, picking up the ball at midfield and then beating the clock, and Franciscan's goalie, on the breakaway goal with just two seconds remaining.

As was the case over much of the first half, the Lady Bearcats again controlled the play to open up the second stanza, and Seminsky's second goal of the day, on a blast from 15 yards out assisted by Stepien, gave SVC another insurance marker, making the score 3-0 with just over 32 minutes remaining in play.

The Lady Bearcats continually kept Franciscan at bay over the final stages of the game, allowing only four second half shots, and coasted down the stretch for their first win of the 2009 season.

For the game, SVC owned a 17-12 advantage in shots, and took the only two corner kicks on the day.  Supported by a strong performance by defenders Logan Gamelier and Ashley Bartko, Lady Bearcat goalie Kirstie Mills made six saves in goal to earn the shutout win.

The Lady Bearcats (1-4) will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, hosting Frostburg State on the SVC Turf beginning at 3pm.
