The Lady Bearcats picked up a dramatic Senior Day victory, defeating Geneva College 3-2 on a last-minute goal by Leanna Seminsky. Seminsky deflected in a blast by teammate Alex Shasko in the game's 89th minute to break a 2-2 tie and snap the Lady Bearcats' three-game losing skid. The visitors got on the scoreboard first, with Rebecca Shaw sending a blast from 15 yards out just inside the upper post to give Geneva the 1-0 lead with 21 minutes gone in the opening half. Saint Vincent was able to tie it up in the 33rd minute, when Carly Duffy banged home a one-timer from Shasko on the doorstep for her first collegiate goal. The score remained 1-1 until 14 into the second half, when following a Geneva foul, Ashley Bartko sent the free kick deep into the Golden Tornado box and onto the head of a leaping Shasko, who directed it into the net to put the Lady Bearcats ahead 2-1. The game was a defensive battle for the next 30 minutes, and it appeared as if the Lady Bearcats were going to hold off Geneva, until the Golden Tornadoes' Maura Allen stripped an SVC defender and went to goal untouched, scoring on the breakaway to tie it up at 2-2 with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. SVC then went on a final push, with Shasko sending a shot in from the top of the box. It deflected off of Seminsky's upper body and past Geneva goalie Lauren Londino to put the hosts up 3-2 with 1:02 left to play. The Lady Bearcat defense then held off a final Geneva charge, and SVC earned the hard-fought and thrilling victory. The stats were even throughout the game, with Geneva holding a slim 15-13 edge in shots. Lady Bearcat goalie Kirstie Mills made seven saves to earn the win. Shasko figured in on all three of the Lady Bearcat goals, with two assists in addition to her second half goal. Prior to the game, Shasko and Bartko, along with sophomore Logan Gamelier, who is in her final season at Saint Vincent, were honored for their contributions to the SVC soccer program. The victory improves the Lady Bearcats' record to 4-13, and the team will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Presidents' Athletic Conference leader Thomas More College beginning at 3pm in the final game of the season on the SVC turf.
