The Lady Bearcats dropped a tough 2-1 decision in double-overtime to Bluffton University in the second day of the Marietta College Invitational Tournament. The game was a defensive struggle from the outset, as the first 78 minutes were scoreless until Bluffton scored to take the 1-0 lead. The Lady Bearcats answered back just 90 seconds later, with Michelle Stepien scoring her first goal of the season unassisted to tie the game at 1-1 with 10 minutes remaining in the second half. Neither team could score in regulation, and the game went to the first extra session. SVC's Alex Shasko looked primed to put the Lady Bearcats in front two minutes into the first overtime, but her shot sailed just high. Bluffton then went on the attack, rattling off four shots over the next two minutes, but none found the net, and the game was sent into a second extra session. Bluffton was able to end the match 90 seconds into the second overtime, on a goal from Katy Wisby, who sent home a cross in the middle of the box. SVC goalie Kirstie Mills was strong in the losing effort, making seven saves, and now has 27 stops through three contests. Following the contest, SVC's Shasko and sophomore defender Logan Gamelier were each named to the all-tournament team. The loss drops the Lady Bearcats' record to 0-3 on the young season, and the team looks to regroup on Tuesday, when it travels to Juniata College for a 5pm contest.
