The Lady Bearcats were defeated 2-0 by the visiting Mountain Cats of the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on the SVC turf.

UPJ managed a 23-3 advantage in shots, but had to withstand a late Lady Bearcat rally before scoring a late insurance goal to leave Latrobe with the two-goal victory.

The visitors got on the board early, when Lindsay Plowman picked up a loose ball from 25 yards on and found the back of the net just 10 minutes into the first half.

UPJ continued to press offensively throughout the first stanza, ending the first half with 10 shots and five corners, but the Lady Bearcat defense held strong, as goalie Kirstie Mills made four saves over the first 45 minutes, keeping the SVC deficit at one goal.

The Cats continued the offensive onslaught in the second half, tallying 12 more shots over the first 30 minutes, but they were still unable to add an insurance marker.

With just over 15 minutes left in the second frame, the Lady Bearcats began to increase their offensive pressure, continually advancing deep into UPJ territory, but goalie Stephanie Paha made a pair of quality saves, first ranging far out of her net to cut off a breakaway by Catherine Czapski, and then snaring a Michelle Stepien redirect attempt from less than 10 feet out.

The visitors finally were able to manage an insurance goal with just over seven minutes left, with Alicia Zack taking a through ball from Lanie Thompson and coming to the goal untouched, directing the shot past the outstretched arms of Mills and into the net.

Mills finished the afternoon with a total of nine saves, and she has now made 38 saves over SVC's last four games.

SVC (1-7) will look to snap its four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Lycoming College for a 3pm contest.
